hi my husband had a cranioplasty due to a traumatic brain injury, last december he suffered a seizure took him to er and they found bacteria in the epidural (brain) fluid, the neurosergeon doesnt want to do surgery yet, he is been taking very strong antibiotics on his iv for 8 weeks and now he is taking an oral antibiotic, so far his
wbc is normal and he is doing good, even taking therapy here at the hospital, its almost three months after they found that infection and so far he is doing good. I hope this information will help you, but each case is different. good luck and God bless!

I am sorry to hear about your cousin. Yes, cerebral or brain infections can be cured, but yes, if definitely a serious complication of surgery. Whether the patient will respond or not will depend on how strong is the infection, involvement of other organs, condition of the patient and many other factors. Please be in touch with the treating neurologists as they alone can tell you how bad the infection is—which appears to be high considering fever and pulse rate. All I can say is that it is a serious thing, and you need to take each day as it comes. Take care!
