Lumbar Puncture headache

I had an LP done 5 days ago and the headache became severe literally my entire head throbbed,as well as my neck, and my mid back hurt... was relieved by laying down. That night I became so depressed from this headache. The next day about 30 hours later, I got a blood patch... almost instant relief but the pain is back, not as severe though only behind my eyes, in the sinus area, and on my forehead as I stand and sit. Becomes better upon lying down.

Is this a failed blood patch?

Could it be a subdural hematoma as I read that you can get a subdural hematoma from a LP and it presents the same symptoms as a post spinal headache. It scares me because I read that in a subdural hematoma the mortality rate is 80%!

If anyone can help me that would be wonderful. THank you.

Hi - I came across this thread tonight, and I was wondering what your outcome was from the LP? I realize its 2 years later, but I was diagnosed with MS yesterday, and I've been reading stories and about the disease all day. Is it possible that you posted your results, but I can't see it? I'd love to know how everything turned out for you.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi!
I am sorry to hear about your medical problems. Yes, it can be a failure of epidural patch or there is another leak which was missed or there is a subdural hematoma or even herniation of tonsils. It is difficult to diagnose this on net. You may need a MRI for this. Also sometimes, a dye can be injected into the spinal fluid and entire spine’s CT scan is taken to locate the leak.  Please consult your neurologist regarding this. Take care!

The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history. Hence this reply to your post should only be considered as a guiding line and you must consult your doctor at the earliest for your medical problem.
