Jaundice in the elderly with other symptoms? Can anyone help?

hi there. my nan is a usually sprightly 81 year old with bad arthritus. she is still obsessed with dieting though and being skinny and doesnt eat much at all. she has also become more confused over the last 18months.
her joints have been immensely painful and she is also very jaundiced all over her body and in her eyes. she is also having alot of difficulty passing bowel motions. she has had bloodwork done and we are awaiting results but I was wondering if it sounds like anything you may have heard of?

thankyou for any insight

It really sounds like icterus to me. I should have checked the use of this word before I replied to you, to know if that word is used here or not!

Jaundice comes of bilirubin in the blood and tissue. It's the liver producing this, to release it in the gall. The reason for the jaundice could be that the bilirubin is produced so fast that the liver can't hang on to the speed.

You'll have jaundice appearing to a few liver-conditions, and anyone who has jaundice should be evaluated by a physician so you did the right thing ordering the bloodworks. The bloodworks are hopefully coming back soon.

I know I'd consider care at hospital for the intense pain and even that could help with the bowel motions.
