Severe Pain/LowerLeftAbdomen/Groin, Right Thigh Numb

Here is the situation.  I have had a chronic pain in the lower left abdomen/groin area for 2 years now.  The pain started suddenly without warning and I thought nothing of it.  I did go to get it checked because someone thought because the pain wasnt going away, it could have possibly been referred pain from the appendix.  I went to have it checked and the doctors said they could find nothing wrong but were suspicious of the pain and thought maybe it would just be a matter of time.  I continued on but things started changing in my life.  Walking, sitting, standing and lifting all started to become more and more difficult as the pain grew in intensity.  Within 6 months, the pain has totally crippled me.  I am now bed ridden, its hard to walk even to the bathroom.  Stairs hurt, any movement hurts like you would not believe.  I went from walking 30 minutes to work everyday, lifting boxes, completly healthy to bed ridden.  My quality of life went from perfect to zero.  I cant even have sex it hurts so much.
So for the past year and a half since the pain absolutly cut my life out, I have been to surgeons, doctors, internists trying to find out what has happened.  I have had a colonoscopy, cystocopy, barium enema, ct scan and mri.  All came back negative, except the ct scan showed a rotation of the mesentery, but surgeons keep saying that is secondary and not the issue.  The pain itself is that of a ripping, tearing sensation and is with me 24/7 and wakes me up at night from the intensity of it.  It seems to get aggravated by movement or lifting, sitting and standing for long periods.  Even though I dont do those things anymore, it still hurts like heck.
I am so frustrated and lost right now because I dont know what to do, where to turn.  My family doctor says I am not crazy, that the pain is physical and its just a matter of finding what and where the culprit is.  I have been through every test imaginable and no surgeon wants to do a lapro, because they think it wont show anything.
My question is, what can do this much damage to a healthy 30 year old male within 6 months.  I am not overweight, and am in perfect condition with the exception of the pain.  Someone suggested a nerve, or the spine or maybe it is the mesentery.  I am running out of options and the pain is just getting worse.  I no longer have good days and have to force myself to walk every hour so my legs dont get too weak.  The doctors are baffled and so am I.  Recently my right thigh started going numb on and off and now is just numb all the time.  One week ago, the right thigh felt like it was being set on fire from the inside.  It was a one time thing I guess, but now the top right portion or the right thigh is numb.  Its like running a piece of masking tape down the right thigh and that strip feels like a dentist froze it.
Any help would be appreciated as I come from a small community and the doctors here dont seem to know whats going on.  I am now begging for help as I need this solved so I can get on with my life. Thank you.

These are the exact symptoms my husband began having in mid December. Pain in his right side, just below the ribs, going around to his side.

His GP said he probably had an ulcer and treated him for two weeks. No change. The pain was constant and didn't change when he ate.

Then after a few weeks it started to get numb, but was still painful.
He went to another Dr (#2) who scheduled an MRI of his spine, thinking he has a disk issue. Then he went to see a GI and he just took blood tests and said everything looked good. When the MRI if his spine came back, Dr #2 told him to go see a neurologist. After the neurologist read the MRI, he thinks it is something called Transverse Myelitis - you can look it up online. Some sort of lesion on his spine showing up as white matter. They think for some reason his immune system is attacking the coating of the nerves in his spine. This can be brought on by a recent sickness - but he has not been sick. He did, however, have a flu shot on November 4.

He has another appointment with another neurologist for a second opinion tomorrow. The first neurologist put him on steroids and gave him a perscription for patches he wears 12 on then off for 12 hours - lidocaine - which he has been using for about 2 weeks. The pain began to go away immediately. The numbness is still there, along with a tightness in the muscles on his side, like someone is sqeezing his side.

The numbness is now going down his right thigh, to his knee. My recommendation would be to go see a neurologist.

There are similar stories on the http://www.myelitis.org/ forum pages of Drs not knowing what is causing the pain and numbness.

Hi, My Mum began with numbness in the top right thigh days ago, followed by the same burning sensation you describe. She has not had any of the pain you have, however she went to the doctors on Tuesday and was told that there was something from the inside pressing on the 7th vertibrae. The next day she had urine tests and an xray. She has been called back already as something has been found in both cases. She is to take antibiotics now, i assume folled by a further xray to eliminate the possibility of an infection. In either case the emphesis seems to be on the kidneys.  Perhaps you could ask for the same tests to check the health of your kidneys.
Good luck, hope this was helpful and that all turns out ok.

I just wanted to add, does anyone else have any other suggestions or ideas, Not that I think the others are wrong or anything, I just want to gather as much info possible for the doctor so I can just get every possiblity checked.  For others you may understand that I am at my breaking point and depression has set in and I have just had enough.  I need this solved so life can go on.  Thanks again.  And for all others having issues, please take care and have hope.  Sometimes its so hard and there is no light at the end of the tunnel, but someone, somewhere has an answer to our issues.  Just hang on.

Thank you guys soooooooo much for your input and feedback, you dont know how much I truly appreciate this help.  I will be telling my doctor this and hopefully he will investigate this further.  Things arent going so well though.  I am getting weakness in my arms and legs and its getting extremly hard to walk now.  I am not giving up hope but its kind of hard when it seems like its one thing after another.  I tell the doctor that I am 30 years old, I should be working, having a relationship and participating in activities but I have got none of those things.  Again thanks for the help and hopefully all of you feel better as well.

I had something similar and had a lot of tests... but not nearly as bad as you. But you read like a dime when it comes to a case I came across in ENGLAND (medical journal on the internet) inwhich a Neuologist figured out a problem like yours. He was treating a MED student of all things who was so bad he was confined to his bed full time for almost a year in constant pain. I think he found a nerve he removed.. gosh, I wish I still had that website on my PC...

In the study, it had been at least a year since NEUOLOGIST who figured out how to get this guy relief with follow up proved after 1 year the young MEDICAL STUDENT got 95 percent relief and was back to normal.

I found it by searching under TESTICULAR PAIN day after day !

DONT' GIVE UP !

Don't say "begging"! Voice out you problem and discuss the problem together.
Actually, I'm facing similar problem .....but in the right side. Chronic right side abdominal pain. I've consulted many doctor and experience many test (CT scan, barium enema, normal x-ray ). All the doctor claimed that's not appendicitis. At the meantime,
they don't think that's chronic appendicitis. Since such case cannot last for so many month! I don't what to do now. Just force to face the pain everyday. 24 hours non-stop pain! No matter I'm standing, cough, walking, sitting, sleeping, pain is all around!
How about the MRI report? Anything wrong with the spine(especially toward L2,-L5 lumbar)? Since problem rise among the spain can cause such pain. Any unusl feeling in your SI joints and hip joints. Do you have sofa at your home? Since sitting on a sofa can cause a harmful effect toward your spine. And may lead to such pain. By the way, any doctor consider your case if herina exist?
Sorry for asking so many question! Since due to my sickness, and no doctor can give me, I've read many issue about many different kinds of sickness. Even though I can't help myself, I want to see if I can provide you more information I known before I die!

Two days ago i developed severe pain in low back, toward the sides. Next I got pain running down sciatic nerve on left leg. Next my groin hurts on left side. The inside of my leg hurts. I felt like the pain radiated all over the lower left region. I went to the gyno because I have history of endometriosis. They did a stat ultrasound and only found a little cyst. I still have the pain and feel horrible. I also have a history of disc disease so I it could easily be my back.

After reading your article, I feel so bad for you. I guess it is not an ovarian cyst if you are a guy. Jane
