What do these symptoms (stomach pain, bloating etc.) suggest?

My grandmother has been complaining a lot about a stomach pain, bloating,
She used to have a good figure. This year she's complaining that her belly grew a lot bigger this year. But most importantly she has stomach pain. She says it's the whole stomach, but the pain seems to be greatest in the upper part towards the rib-cage. Sometimes it radiates towards the back.

My grandmother is about 75 years old. She has been suffering from a lot of stress this year. She has not changed her diet or medications. She takes drugs that lower the pressure & cholesterol.
No history of cancer in our family. She's suffering from heart disease and rheumatism. Years ago she had jaundice and duodenum ulcers.
I would appreciate any suggestions!

The doctor casually suggested that it could be the large intestine, but did not pursue this further. There were no tests done. Any suggestions?

Please have your grandma's doctor check her for h-pylori, a stomach bacteria that can cause a lot of misery.  My own mother had that for years, undiagnosed. Her drs ran her through the gamut of tests - treated her for an ulcer (but that wasn't it) and ever removed her gall bladder to try to ease the pain. None of that helped. My mom was always bloated and belched a lot, but it never seemed to help the pain.

When she moved to a new town and a new dr, he tested her for other things and found she had the h-pylori bacteria in her stomach. The treatment is fairly simple - antibiotics. Within two weeks, she was back to her old self and feeling great, eating food normally again. To think of all the misery she went through at the hands of drs who didn't test her!

While many things can cause stomach upset like your description, including gall bladder problems, please please try to get her dr to do the h-pylori test first. It could save her a lot of misery!

Hello.!!!

I'm so sorry that your Grandma is in distress.  I can't begin to point out a specific cause.  I have to say shame on her dr.!!!  Grandma came up against a dr. who disrespected a female senior citizen by disregarding her pain.

So, my 1st suggestion was to seek medical help.  It's still the way to go but you either take her back to the original dr. & strongly insist tests are run, or get a different dr. altogether, maybe at the emergency room because we don know just how serious this is and it might be quite serious.

  I wouldn't put this off.

I wish the best outcome for the both of you.

Blessings,

  Melinda
