anaemia & headaches

I've been suffering from low haemogloblin levels for the past twelve years.  I have been diagnosed with endometreosis and am awaiting treatment.  I have suffered from headaches from years and have been putting them down to sinus headaches and migraines.  However, I am now realising that the vast majority of these have probably been related to the anaemia.  My haemoglobin is currently 7.5  and my iron stores are almost depleted.  My headaches are currently chronic and seem to be changing a little too in that I have serious pain on the right side of my head, most especially towards the base.  I have also pressure like pains around the top of my head.  I am constantly exhausted but when I went to a haematologist a few years ago I was told my body was basically able to cope with the low haemoglobin levels!  I am also starting to show signs of Reynauds disease and if my hands or feet get cold they just go numb and pure white.  I lose all feeling in them and it takes a while to come back.  Does anybody else suffer as above and if so how do you cope?

Many thanks for taking the trouble to reply.  I will take what you said on board and book another appointment with a different haemotologist soon.

Thanks again.

Hello,

It is wrong that your body is coping up with your Anemia. All the symptoms that you are having like fatigue, exhaustion, headaches, cold and pale peripheries are related to anemia.
In anemia, there is decreased Hb.Hb carries oxygen to the various organs of the body. So anemia results in lower amount of oxygen reaching tissues, so the brain as well is hypooxigenated . Any lowering of oxygen level in the brain can cause a swelling of the arteries of the area, causing headaches.

I feel that you should consult a hematologist and get reticulocyte count and peripheral blood smear done to find out the cause of anemia as to whether it is due to iron deficiency, vit B12 deficiency or increased hemolysis.

Treatment is specific for the type of anemia. So pls get yourself evaluated soon.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep us posted on how you are doing.
