well they say that what i have will not be able to fix and they say it wont interfere with my operation but after i have my operation 4 days after they will be taking me too a rehab hospital for 7 to 10 days to keep a eye on things so what does low competence really mean all the told me is i have low competence and i will have to deal with this for the rest of my life lots of the pain i have is due to swelling feet and legs.
I am frustrated is there any tests that should be done or any suggestions you have as it is 29 days from surgery and i am afraid that the low competence in my legs are going to interfere with this surgery thanks

Hi

First of all relax!! Easier said than done I know. However you can have hip surgery. Yes, in all probability they will operate on the veins simultaneously. Treatment of the valvular dysfunction by sclerotherapy or ambulatory phlebectomy is done as an out patient procedure and can be attempted before the hip surgery. The most common site of venous dysfunction is the sephano-femoral junction. This causes the primary varicose veins. This can be corrected easily as an out patient procedure. Treatment is simple.
Hope this helps. I think you should discuss these possibilities with your doctor. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Hi thank you for your fast reply i cant sleep as i am worried about this, just anther question if I may,is there anyway this can be fixed as i dont want to wait any longer for my hip operation i been waiting a long tme as it is and if it can be fixed, is it another operation ?what do they do fo this type of problem and what excactly is vascular in competence is my veins collapsing or somthing ? can it be fixed the same time as my hip operation. so from what i gather this is pretty serious.
Sorry for all the questions i am just very concerned as i am a single father oh and if it cant be fixed what can they do for me and if it cant be fixed does that mean i cant have the hip operation . if you have ime i would greatly appreciate if you could answer some f the questions thanks and what causes theses problems could it be from my original work accidebt i 1997 that broke my hip in the first place.

The deep veins of the leg like the saphenous vein have valves which help to propel blood towards heart. When these do not function well, the blood accumulates in the deep veins causing edema in surrounding areas.
Well, I am sorry to say, but yes, a valvular dysfunction can complicate your hip surgery. This needs to be taken care of before the surgery. Post surgery it will be some time before you really start your normal routine, exercises etc. Poor leg movement results in poor circulation and along with a valvular dysfunction, can lead to further stasis of blood.
You should discuss this with the surgeon who will be operating you for hip replacement. Both orthopedic and vascular surgeon will need to deal with this.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
