Calcified renal cortical cystic lesion-Bosniak type 2
Hi, My mom 55 years in age has a history of kidney stones. As part of regular monitoring, the doctor identified cortical cystic lesion in the ultrasound. Subsequently he advised a normal CT scan and further a colour CT scan. Following was the part of the report referring to the lesion:
'Cortical cystic lesion measuring approx 20*19mm is seen at the anterior lip of right kidney hilum shoeing subtle curvi-linear and nodular calcification seen along its wall. There is no discernible wall and no abnormal contrast enhancement in the cyst. After contrast administration, there are two smaller cortical cysts identified - 10mm in the lower pole of right kidney and partly exophytic and 9 mm in lower pole of left kidney.'
'Impression: Right renal calculus. Multiple renal cortical cyst- 20mm cyst with wall calcification Bosniak type 2 in right kidney and smaller cysts in right and left kidneys'
The doctor has said that the cysts will require monitoring and nothing to worry about. Could someone help us by confirming that the cysts are benign. If they are then why are there multiple cysts. Is Bosniak type 2 cyst dangerous? What is the recommended course of action from here on? Will be very very grateful if any expert could help.
