Bilateral Varicocelectomy & Hydrocele removal

Hello,
Apporx 7 weeks back I had Bilateral Varicoclectomy.
Incisions were made on the lower abdomen (left and right).
Also, during the surgery Hydrocele was removed by pulling the testis out through the incisions.
After the surgery my Scrotum was really swollen and has reduced quite considerably now.
But its still a little large now (after 7 weeks) and my left testis is not completely hanging down.
Its is slightly below my abdomen.
It is also little swollen but has reduced a lot since the surgery.
I have no pain in either of the testis and the stitches on my abdomen is almost healed.
I want to know, if this is normal (left testis not falling) and also the skin around the scrotum seems a liitle thick.
Please advice.

Thanks

Thanks once again for your help.

It was normal before the surgery, so I will wait for the swelling to subside completely.
Appreciate your comments.

Hi,
How are you? Immediately after surgery there is some amount of swelling and the testicles lie a bit closer to the abdomen, but as the swelling and pain subside the testicle descend in to the scrotum.

If at all this was present even before the surgery or since birth then a proper evaluation by a urologist is required. In adults repair of this condition is not possible, but the undescended testicle cannot be left like that, as this poses risk of developing infection, bleeding and tumors.

Hope this information helps.
Best.

Hello Dr Veena,

Thanks for your comments to my question, just needed one clarification.
The left testicle not being descended completely, is that something that I should worry about or is it something which will descend over time ?

Thanks once again.

Hi,
How are you? It is common to have swelling of the scrotum after varicocelectomy for few weeks but after that pain and swelling subside. In case, there is persistent swelling, then it could be hydrocele. In your case as hydrocelectomy has also been done, I don’t think there is anything to worry.

Usually the doctors advise to wear a scrotal support and place an ice pack on the area to bring down any swelling. There may be discomfort in the testicle for a few weeks, but after that, any aches and pains will go away and everything should be back in full working order.

In case there is increase in swelling and pain consult a urologist and get a scrotal ultrasound done to determine the cause.
Best.
