Bleeding

I'm 19 years old. I woke up one Saturday morning to an extensive amount of blood in my boxers which had seeped through to not only my sweatpants but the sheets as well. I rushed to the bathroom and I was still dripping blood out of my penis. I went straight to the Emergency room where they did a full body cat scan and there were no tumors, no masses or kidney stones. As well as nothing found in my liver. They took a urine sample which came out to have bacteria in it. They also took my blood which came out fine as well. The doctor diagnosed me as having a Bladder Infection and I was perscribed 500 mg pf the antibiotic Cipro and directed me to see a Urologist. I have yet to see the Urologist because a few days later I noticed a complete turn around. No blood, no more burning, I was feeling well enough to begin my everyday routines again. Around the 5th day after I had bled out, I had a little bleed out again. It wasn't too much this time though, but it was enough to scare me. A few days later I went back to the emergency room but to a different hospital. This time the doctor took my blood, which was fine, 2 urine samples, which both came out clean with NO bacteria but now I'm having some pain under my rib cage which I explained to him and he said it could just be muscle spazms from being imobile for the last week or so as I had just laid around the house but I just want another opinion. Could something else be wrong? The pain isn't sharp as much as it is just irritating and causes me to keep switching positions when I sleep. I am also drinking A LOT of fluids, such as Cranberry Juice and lots of water. My eating habits are regular also. The doctor also mentioned I should see a Urologist just like the first one due to the fact that I could have a Cyst in my Urethra. Could this be true? And will I bleed out again as extensive as I did the first time? What causes a Cyst in the Urethra? I am sexually active but have not been sexually active for about 3.5 months now. I'm just worried as to something being seriously wrong and no one can really put their finger on as to exactly what I have. I also looked up the symptoms for a kidney infection and I have no symptoms. No fever, most importantly. Will this effect me sexually? Someone please help me!

Hello,
Haemorrhagic cystitis is inflammation of the bladder leading to pain during micturiotion, hematuria or blood in urine and hemorrhage. It can occur due to viral infections, chemotherapy or radiations. If this is suspected then I suggest you to get an immediate examination done from a urologist. Treatment is cause dependent but it is important to evacuate any clot which has formed.

I suggest your friend to get an examination done from a dermatologist to confirm the diagnosis. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Thank you for your input. I'm glad I can finally speak to someone. Now I have taken notice to the fact that I have been done with my Cipro for about 2 days now and I haven't had any complications other than the fact I had a little blood come out when I went pee. I haven't tried to masterbate or get sexual or anything so I wouldn't know anything about blood in my semen. I still am in a little pain under my ribs but it comes and goes. I have been a little constipated lately, I have noticed. I would go see a Urologist but I do not have any insurance, thus why I have been going to the emergency but they really don't tell me much. I have a feeling the last time I went to the Emergency room, when the doctors took my urine test, the only reason it came up with no bacteria was because I was in the cycle of Cipro still. Someone suggested to me to take some Cranberry AZO pills but I've never heard of them. If I had inflation of the prostate, would it have come up in my CT Scan? The doctor said I had Hemorrhagic Cystitis the first time I went in to emergency. How do you treat that? And could smoking have a cause with this? I am pretty sure I don't have an STD because my last partner I had been in a relationship with for 11 months and we were very committed and she was a virgin before me.. So I'm puzzled as to how this could happen. And I haven't had sex in about 3.5 months. I'm just really confused. I'm 19 years old, my father just recently passed away and I don't live with my mother. I'm an all around healthy kid, I lift weights on a daily basis, take protein supplements. I played basketball, baseball and ran track in high school and now I work full time. I drink occasionally and smoke occasionally but nothing too serious. I am just real confused!

Hello,
From your symptoms it can be blood in urine or blood in semen. Both types need to be evaluated. Blood in the urine can present in one of two ways: gross hematuria (blood that you can see in the urine), and microscopic hematuria (blood that is only seen when the urine is examined under a microscope). Both types can have serious causes.

Blood in semen can be caused by many conditions affecting the male genitourinary system. These include infections like herpes, Chlamydia, cytomegalovirus, trichominiasis ; inflammation of the prostate (prostatitis), epididymis (epididymitis), or urethra (urethritis) ; calculi (stones )in the seminal vesicles or prostate ; polyps in the urethra ; ejaculation-duct obstructions ; cysts, hemorrhage, or other abnormalities in the seminal vesicles or benign or malignant tumors.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Dear Ryan,

Please do not worry, you definitely need to see an urologist. The bleeding might occur but it will be due to under treated disorder which has occurred. However it should not be as extensive as the first time.

As all of your tests are showing you will be ok. However a check-up with the urologist is still necessary.
