Hi,
There is no single known treatment available for IC. Treatment is highly individual and requires several modalities. Lifestyle modification like change in diet and initiating supplements containing calcium glycerophosphate may be done.Oral medications , bladder installations and physical therapy are also used. Surgical intervention is only considered as a last resort.
Now that you mentioned you are only 21, do you have any associated problems with the menstrual cycle?I suggest a consult with a gynecologist may also be of benefit.
Im 21 years old. No my GP has not assessed me by any other means other than urine analysis.
I am making an appt for this week to speak to my physician and discuss matters further. If it is intestitial cystitis what is the treatment for that type of thing??
Thanks again for all the advice!
hello, i am 19 years old male. A week ago, i noticed that there was a strong burning sensation during my urination process. However, I have not noticed any color changes in the urine as far as cloudines is concerned. There is also no blood. I also sometimes experience this burning sensation after i ejaculate. I am pretty sure the burning sensation is slowly subsiding, however i am very concerned. Any information regarding my status as well as adivce would be greatly appreciated, Thank You!
Hi,
How old are you again?
If you had several urinalysis done in the past and most of these are normal has your physician assessed you along the line of intestitial cystitis?
A cystoscopy and potassium sensitivity test may be able to help. The diagnosis of IC is based on a complete medical history and physical examination. I know you are frustrated on how this has been so far. Just keep a proactive attitude. Discuss this with your physician and listen to what he/she thinks about this.
Thanks for everyones advice! I have just recently had my urinanalysis results back from my GP which were normal. I have had no symptoms since! What should my next steps be??? I just dont know what to do now!!
check this site it s about IC causes the same symptoms

Hi,
One thing to consider here as previously posted is urethral syndrome. This may present as pain in urination and increase in urinary frequency. Do you frequently get up at night to void ?Discuss with your physician the possibility of urethral syndrome. Given that a complete assessment of the urinary tract has been done and no other underlying problems, structural or otherwise have been noted. Urethral syndrome may present as chronic urinary discomfort.Infections and trauma have been implicated . Prolonged antibiotic treatment may be beneficial.
No none that I am aware of at all its just really annoyin on the days that its here I am constantly running to the loo and the burning pain can be quite unbearable at times.
Hi,
Any associated condition, activity or event prior to onset of your symptoms? Are you allergic to certain food or ingredients?
Yes urine cultures have been done and on occasion bacteria found but sometimes no bacteria present at all. I dont have this problem constantly it seems to come and go like a reoccuring thing!!
Hi,
Ok, it seems that your physicians do not see any indications for now that may warrant a scan. However, the burning sensation persists. Was a urine culture done? You may discuass this with your physician since the medications may need to be changed or evaluated. Urethral syndrome may be a differential. This refers to a condition wherein pain in urination and increase in urinary frequency may be present in the absence of bacteria in the urine.
Hi Vanessa,
No scans have been done!! I feel like I'm hitting a brick wall everytime I go to the docs. They just say drink plenty water or cranberry juice. Can some UTI's just resolve thereselves?? Sometimes I feel by the time I get a doctors appointment the symptoms have gone!
I have no allergies that I know of? As I've said its usually every couple of months I get this and inbetween these espisodes I feel quite normal!!!
Sometimes the urine can be cloudy and have a really strong smell to it. Im scheduling a doctors appointment this week and feel I should asked to be referred on to a specialist as the symptoms when they are here are really annoying!!
Hi,
This has been going on for two years and besides from the urinalysis were any scans done ?
I suggest you have a thorough evaluation including an evaluation for kidney and ureteral stones. A repeat urinalysis may help since UTI can recur. Do you have any allergies?
Contact dermatitis brought about by contact with material that one is sensitive to may cause some discomfort in the area.
Continue taking adequate amount of fluid. After urinating do not rub the area. Observe the symptoms and refrain from any sexual activity until this has been assessed.
