Cronic groin pain after hernia surgery

I had mild, occassional groin pain on the right side off an on for ten years. I belived it to be a mild hernia. I finally decided to see a surgeon and he said I had a bilateral hernia. I allowed him to perform the operation. I believe the doctor that performed the operation made mistakes that caused my current condition which is much worse than prior to the operation. I know have continuous groin pain on the right side and occasional groin pain on the left. The right side pain worsen after long walks, climbing stairs, and after sex. The highten pain lasts for 2 -3 days and then lessen to a dull pain. The pain also travels down to the penis and scrotum and also a few inches down the inner thigh and also up into the abdomin. The doctor that performed the operation is no help. He believes the operation was a success. Other doctors have no idea of what to do. I have seen several online articles about this condition but no answers. I believe the doctor damaged my spermatic cord and the nerves in the surrounding area. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

I know the pain your going through and I understand what your saying. I had surgery for a hernia on July 3rd 2000 while I was in the Marines. After surgery it has never been the same to this day. I have been going to the VA hospital in Nashville Tn since 2002. All they have done is give me anti depressant medicine talked to a shrink and they also did some injections which I think has made it worse. So I decided to get other opinions by civilian doctors. They said they cant do surgery again because it might make matters worse. I am currently seeing a pain clinic and they have put me to sleep to do a nerve block which made it worse and now I am currently taking oxycodone 10mg 4 times a day for pain. It hurts to walk, sit, stand, bend anything physical. Wearing a seatblet is also hard. My right side is very tender to the touch. I cant sleep cant eat because the pain is so severe and yet the doctors say ohh it was a successful surgery. Yea I really believe that. I am married and have four kids and it has made my life hell for the past 11 yrs. I cant work anymore because of the pain. I have applied for social security dissability because of the loss of wages depression and pain and suffering me and my family has had to live with. I cant run or ride bikes with my kids. I have also been researching things on the web about this problem and I want you to look at this website. It deals with everything I live with on a day to day basis. I hope you find what your looking for and I pray you dont have to suffer like I have. God bless you and good luck. Here is the website if you want to check it out. www.groin-hernia.com/herniabible/surgery.html

Hi,

How long has it been since your hernia surgery?

Recovery time following herniorrhaphy depends on the hernia, the type of surgery (plasty?) and individual factors.

The abdominal wall at the site of the incision is bound to be alittle week in the months following the surgery .
Any undue exertion, raised intraabdominal pressures due to chronic cough, etc., can result in injury and recurrence of the condition.

You will need to build up your stamina to perform normal activities over a period of time. Age is also a factor that determines healing and successful surgery.

Do post a few more details, regarding your age and duration since surgery.

Regards
