Discomfort after taking Cipro

Let me give you a brief overview of what happened.

I recieved oral sex unprotected from a female as well as protected vaginal. About a week later I felt some burning during urination and by the next day I had some discharge.

I called my doctor the following day. The discharge was a bit less than the first day, but was still clearly there. He perscribed me a week of Cipro.

After taking the Cipro all symptoms subsided and I was fine, that is until the last day of my regimen (I continued to take it even after my symptoms went away).

On the last day of me taking the Cipro I was feeling just a bit of discomfort down there mostly on my shaft. It wasn't painful, there wasn't really any burning, just kind of felt it. Its hard to explain.

An Army medic friend of mine said that is normal after being treated for STDs. The discomfort did not go away after a few days, and started getting slightly more pronounced - keep in mind there was no burning during urination and no discharge anymore (that all went away within days of taking the Cipro).

I called my doctor again and he told me to renew my Cipro.

I started taking another week of Cipro, which helped only minimally. The discomfort is still there and I have 3 more days of my Cipro regmien left to take.

My question is this: is discomfort really normal after STD treatment?

If after I finish taking this week of Cipro should I not worry about the discomfort if its still there?

Is it possible that the Cipro treatment caused something else to happen? Because from what I researched online no STD causes this kind of symptom without accompanying burning, discharge, etc.

Any recommendations on what I should do next?

The prostate should be looked at, as it can cause persistent seeding and symptoms despite short courses of antibiotics.  

A prostatic massage should be considered, and any prostatic fluid sent off for analysis and culture.  There are some cases of prostatitis that may require 4-12 weeks of antibiotics.  

If there is a concern about a prostatic abscess, a transrectal ultrasound can be done to image the prostate.  If this is the case, draining the abscess may need to be done, as antibiotics will not be effective.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician or urologist.
