Epididymo Orchitis after massage

I have recently been diagnosed with Epididymo Orchitis and wondering about what may have caused it.
About 4 to 5 days before it appeared I had a massage which included my genitals... no hand job, masturbation  or ejaculation, simply oiling up penis and balls and moving on.
My wife and I have not sexually active for a  number of years and I have not had sexual relations with anyone else so the other thing I am thinking is that recently I have been experimenting with a **** ring for self pleasure.
Occasionally, once or twice a month, I have been wearing a ****, or penis glans ring.
It is stainless steel and sits under the foreskin and just below the glans and has two small balls which sit either side of the frenum (?) I kind of equate it to the male equivalent of a clit piercing.
It does not restrict either urination or ejaculation.
I was wearing it during the above massage session.
Could either of these things caused my Epididymo Orchitis?
Thank you...
