Is this really a Kidney Infection

Just lately i have been having some pain between my shoulder blades. Over the weekend i also developed a feeling down below feeling like i need to urinate, but i don't actually need to go and haven't been going any more than usual.
The pain between my shoulders is actually extremely painful and almost feels like a burning/stabbing sensation at times and the pain had me in tears yesterday.
I visited my GP this morning and she believes i have a kidney infection and has put me on antibiotics and took a urine sample and i am to see her again on Wednesday for results and to see if i am doing any better.

Everything i read about Kidney infections does not say anything about your back hurting between the shoulders, it seems that the pain i should be having if this were a kidney infection is more round the bottom part of my back?
Can anybody offer any advice please?
