IN AGONY

I am looking for anyone who may be experiencing the same problem as I am.. about 3 years ago I was experiencing pain at the tip of my penis, bloody semen, hard time urinating etc...  I went to several drs who told me that it was just prostatitis- given major antibiotics and nothing helped- about a year later I was diagnosed as having Trichomonas- which was the original problem a year earlier becuase I had not had sexual encounter since the begining of all the pain/ problems etc..anyway I was treated and cured of the Trich.  After still expereincing pain, hard time urinating I went for ultra sounds, cystoscopy, cat scans- major antibioitcs etc- std tests everyhting came back normal but I was diagnosed as having still prostatitis, over-active bladder- no medications have helped-still.   For the past year I have urine leakage/ some type of clear discharge also have this weird sensation as if something is being forced out of my penis- almost like a spasm- the tip of my penis is red and inflamed- gets worse after ejaculation- I get this intense itching feeling at the tip and also a pinching sensation- the redness comes and goes- one day its there and the next it's not- another symptom is a tingling/ cold burning sensation-I am not having this pain in my bladder- the feeling is like when you hold your pee in for a long time and you get that pain in your bladder... I Have been tested for EVERY STD and everything negative- the itching/ burning sensationa at the tip is making me CRAZY- the Dr's are telling em this is all in my head but i can see the redness and feel the itchiness.... is there anyone out there that may be experiencing the same symptoms ????  Should I go to another type of Dr- I have been to  dermatologist but by the time I get an available appointment- I get in there and the redness is not there- they look at me like I am crazy... 3 years and I am going out of my mind

Thanks for your reply..hope you didn't mind the questioning of the Dr status.. and I hope you don't mind additional questions... I was treated with Diflucan- again with no relief... I was on 2 rounds of Flagyl and metronidazole ( I had gotten c-diff from all the anti-biotics I was on to treat the Prostate)  My HIV status is unfortuntely positive (9 years) my viral load undetectable and my cd4 in the low 900's.  I was on 2 months of cipro ( not concecutively)  Bactrum, 1 month of Doxycycline, 1 month of lavaquin- wouldn't these have cured the strep/ staph in my semen?  I would think they would have correct?  Why do you think after ejaculation the opening of my penis gets REAL RED/ inflammed- also have a constant leaking (a little) of urine- could this be what is causing the rdness/ irritation?  And what the hell is causing the out of no where itchiness?  I will be sitting at work and all of a sudden a major tickling/ itching will occur.... I have been to a top STD specialist in manhattan NY and he was the one that finally dagnosed me with the Trich- he said it was a form of trich related to e-coli bacteria- other than that there were no other findings- was tested for gonharea, chlamadia, ngu, urealplasma- several times all negative everytime..all the Drs are at a loss and tell me to just put this out of my mind and move on- but how can I- I mean I try but it has completely taken over my life...any ad'l thoughts?

Hi,

I am a doctor. All Medhelp doctors have the caduceus (medical emblem) next to their names.

Trichomonas is a parasite that causes infection of the reproductive tract, sometimes the prostate in males.
It is detected on microscopic examination in a test called wet mount.
Some strains of trichomonas are resistant to treatment with metronidazole, so its necessary to follow up on this.
I was also wondering if you had ben examined for yeast infection?

"The major symptoms of yeast infection in males, of which some are easy to identify visually, are: (1) sporadic discharge from the penis; (2) tingling or painful irritation, an uncomfortable feeling in the penis; (3) swelling, red color and a very sensitive penis; (4) a rash in blotches on the glans penis that causes pain."

www.americanchronicle.com/articles/60148

Staph. and strep. are not normal in the semen. These are bacterial organisms that cause infections, which can be treated with antibiotics (those which the organisms are sensitive to).

Be persistent in identifying the cause of your problem. Only then can any effective management be done.

Do post any further doubts and details you have, including whether you had any antifungal or steroid treatment and your HIV status.

Regards

Your name states DR. Smitha...are you really a DR or is that just your log-in name here?   Anyway...I was re-tested for the Trich and told that the infection was gone- also had 3 blood testes for Herpes and told HSV1 positive but HSV2 Negative..also swabbed for Herpes and told negative- it's weird because I get sometimes a "chapped lip" look on the opening of my penis- which I thought was herpes- I even took a pic of it to show my Dr and she said it was not herpes- it definatelty has a cycle- it "flares up" for 2 days (really red/ irritated) then it slowly subsides over the next week- then like clockwork it flares up again and the same pattern again (for the past year)  I have been on flomax, hytrin, enablex you name it and nothing has helped my symptoms- now starting yesterday, after I urinate I get this intense pain in my bladder- I am going out of my mind TRUELY- it has caused me major depression and my sex life is non- exixtant becaseu of all this- 3 years !!!!   Could I have all these complications becuase the Trich went un-diagnosed for over a year ?  I am thinking that it cause some permanent damage- I don't know- I am just trying to figure out what the hell is going on- I have talked to several people that have had prostatitis and no one has had the symptoms I am having ( pincing feeling at the tip/ constant redness etc)  They did test my semen a long time ago and found Stapholococous, and streptococous (forgive the spelling) but I was told those were normal findings..is that correct?  I just do not know what else to do and after being told they can not find anything and that it is all in my head is just making me more frustrated- I keep going back to the Dr and everytime I go they just think I am crazy (seriously)

Hi,
Are you sure you are free of the trichomonas infection?

Trichomoniasis usually causes minimal symptoms in men, but when they do they cause a tingling sensation, discharge, and itching.

Have you been treated with any prostate-specific drugs, such as Flomax, Hytrin, for your symptoms?

Have you had a herpes simplex test? The blood test?

Have you had any small eruptions on your penis that blister and scab?

It is possible that there may be a residual infection of the trichomonas persisting in the prostate (despite treatment, and negative urinalysis), so that needs to be ruled out.

Do check if your symptoms subside after sitting in a hot bath for about 10-15 min.

The bladder pain could also be due to the prostate inflammation. Inflammation in the prostate can be due to an infection or without an infection also.

Meanwhile,

Drink fluids in excess of 2000 ml per day
Drink cranberry or citrus juices
Increase intake of vitamin C

And post a few more details.

Regards
