Please assess!

I have been taking a course of antibiotics for 10 days now and my urine is brown all of a sudden. I am worried sick and have went to the doctors to have blood and urine test done. I'm scared that I may have contracted something even though I had protected sex. I don't understand what's going on with my body. The antibiotics were given because doctors thought I had a possible std but it turns out test were negative so I have been taking pills for nothing although it helped glands in neck to go down. I am afraid of what they're going to tell me tomorrow. Doctor told me he's not overly worried but he will look into the urinalysis to see whats going on.

I have experienced everything from inflamed lymph glands, mild fever, sweating, chills, and muscle aches. I am convinced of the worst right now. I don't know what else to do.

I've found our forums to be support and informational. I have some issues too. I know what it's like to feel alone.

I came to MH some years ago - it's an awesome site. I didn't realize there were others with the same fears and concerns.

I wish you Peace,

Thanks so much you've helped a great deal. Yes, the ultrasound was external and internal(transvaginal). They didn't find much much free fluid but told me it's normal for some women especially around the time of their cycle( mines was due five days later). However, the doctor is doing all that he can and is very reassuring, I just feel alone going through this. I am hoping something non-life threatening is found.

Hi Sweetie,

I didn't see this (probably your first) post before I responded to your other one. Please excuse me for not looking more closely at the board.

I don't necessarily think you've taken ATBs (antibiotics) "for nothing."  They would have treated a UTI - if you had one - an per you lymph nodes are no longer swollen. It's obvious you have/had something going on. Finding just what it is can be a puzzle and take a bit of time.

I don't think this is anything life threatening - or life changing. An inflammation in your body can produce the SX (symptoms) you are experiencing.

UA results are normally available in 24hours or less - other than a Culture and Sensitivity (called a UA w/C&S). A C&S usually takes 72 hours to return - though often they have a good idea if anything is going to grow in 48 hours.

I understand your fear - I'd be very concerned also. If it helps - your physician has done some testing so far that would reveal at least a hint of something serious if it were there. Granted as I said in my other response to you - there are more diagnostic testing to be done.

I know you said you've had an Ultrasound - was that a Transvaginal Ultrasound? It's inserted into the vaginal cavity and uses high-frequency sound waves to view your internal organs. These sound waves bounce off your organs, creating images of their structures. A transvaginal ultrasound is a kind of pelvic ultrasound that is used to see reproductive organs like the uterus, ovaries, cervix, and vagina. It's a great diagnostic tool. I've had several of them.

I assume you've had some labs such as a CMP (Comprehensive Metabolic Panel). These labs have also been called Chem 20, SMA 20 or SMAC 20 if you're more familiar with those terms. Though there is one name for the test like CMP it looks at a variety of body functions and is actually multiple tests within one name.

The test provides your practitioner with great information on the general functions of your body. Sometimes one "off" finding will indicate a need for further investigation and more specific labs - or tests that need to be preformed.

What I'm trying to say is the things your physician is doing should lead to a DX (Diagnosis) - or searching in the right area for a DX.

I know waiting is horrid. You wouldn't be normal if you weren't concerned. We all think the worse and wait for the hammer to fall on us. Try to do something to keep your mind and/or body busy - that's what I do when I'm in that horrid waiting limbo - it'll help make the time go quicker.

I'm sorry I can't be more specific or more informational. I do hope something I've said has been of help.

If you have additional questions or comments please feel free to ask - we'll do our best. Another member may have more suggestions or thoughts. I'll look forward to hearing from you soon.

My Best to You,
~Tuck
