Renal Lesion

by momoftwins92, Mar 05, 2008 09:30PM
Hi. I have a 4 year old daughter and she has renal reflux in one kidney (had it in both kidneys but right kidney reflux went away). The renal reflux is a grade 3. Ever since she was 6 months old, we've been told she has a kidney stone in her right kidney and yesterday she went to her pediatric urologist, and he says now he believes what they thought was a kidney stone is a renal lesion or as he put it, a piece of fat or fatty tissue and on May 1st, she is having a MRI to determine that's what it is. My question to you is, is there any worry this might be cancer or anything? She has had this since 6 mo of age, everything I've read cancer isn't mentioned but of course anytime I hear lesion I go straight to the thought of cancer and it scares me to death. Her dr says he's seen this before and it is usually nothing. Would you agree? What are your thoughts on this?

Hi,

I understand you are highly anxious about this.At this point, I can not tell exactly what this 'lesion' is as only a histopath result is definitive in giving a diagnosis for cases of lumps or any lesions in the body. However, let me assure you that if this has been present for 4 years already then this may not likely to be cancer.Your physician will know best as he has noted the character of the lesion when your daughter was 6 months old and comparing it to the lesion noted in her current tests. If there are no changes in the lesions' (please allow me to use the term lesion repeatedly here ) character then there seems to be no cause of unnecessary worrries at this point. I know this is easier said than done. Just continue to openly discuss this with your daughter's physician.Continue to reassure your daughter.

Let us hope for clear and normal results.

Thank you so much for your comment. I am a nervous wreck at this point, so I was able to get the MRI tomorrow morning instead of May 1st. I spoke with pedatrician today and he seems to think its not cancer and just fatty tissue, but we will find out tomorrow.  Thank you again and I will keep you updated.
