Pain in the kidneys (possibly for holding urine)

Hello. I'm a male of 27, healthy, never had any urinary problem so far. Four nights ago I went to sleep having drank a lot. In the middle of the night I awoke having to pee badly but I went on sleeping (or trying to) for one or two hours. It was freezeing cold outside my bed so I delayed the moment of waking up until I was absolutely bursting and felt that my kidneys hurt (yes I know it was pretty stupid of me and I won't do the same again if I have the chance). After I peed the pain in the kidneys continued to be there.

The next day I thought I was OK but that night again my kidneys started to hurt (not a terrible pain, just a slight one that seemed to tell me that not everything was OK there). This last few days now and again I got that pain in the kidneys and the sensation of heaviness that causes me discomfort and started to worry me. The colour of the urine was OK, as usual, and the amounts I'm not sure, maybe a little less but no big difference.

The question is, do you think I can have caused any type of damage to my kidneys by holding too much urine? If so, would it be temporary or permanent?

Thank you very much.

Thank you very much for the response! Fortunately in these past two days the pain seems to be receding. I have been drinking much water as a friend gave me the same advice you give me here and it seems it has helped. I only hope this tendency goes on, but I will consult an urologist all the same.

Thanks again!

Hello,
For such kind of pain, drink plenty of fluids and pass urine. Also take non steroidal anti inflammatory pain killers like acetaminophen after consulting your doctor. If the pain persists then inflammation of the urinary bladder and infections need to be ruled out. Please consult a urologist in that case.

I hope it helps. Take care and regards.

Hello,i have had a habit of holding my bladder for an hour at a time and now I have back pain.....it is because I have difficult time emptying my bladder....so I wait like an hour. Is this bad? Could I be damaging my kidneys?
