Twisted and bent penis after waking up, probably due to erection caught in underwear

This morning, I woke up and went to the washroom to pee. I noticed my penis, although flaccid at the time, was twisted from right to left and had a bend or curve from right to left along the shaft. It must have been from a night time erection that I had that got caught in my underwear or something.

There is pain, not severe, but noticeable at the top right side of my penis just before the shaft meets the body, basically where I noticed the twisting starting to begin. I haven't tried to get an erection because I want to rest it, but I have never had this happen before.  The penis now looks somewhat straight as it should, but the pain is still there.

What damage if any have I caused? What do you think happened?

I am a pharmacist,  not a physician , but this sounds like it may be pyronie's desease. I believe this condition is most commonly occuring in middle aged men and is not associated with cancer or anything life threatening.
The " bending" is due to a thickening of the tissue on one side of the penis that though not noticeable when the penis is flacid , does become visable during an erection due to the loss of elasticity of the tissue in this one particular spot. The thickened are may felt beneath the skin by many and this is the part where i must defer to a physician, but I believe there is a minor corrective surgery that is both safe and effective.
