Urine Odor

Hi. It has been more than a year since I had my hair rebonded. It was late December 2011.
Just a few days after I had the treatment, my urine started to smell just like the treatment applied on my hair.
I thought it was just nothing. I drink lots of water and the smell went away.
However, since I had the treatment, my urine smells the same from time to time especially if I only urinate very little.
It bothers me a lot because it has been a year and the smell keeps on coming back.

Thank you very much, Dr Kaul.
Just a follow-up. I have undergone several urinalysis. The last one was on April 4. I took it together with the other required pre-employment examinations. The result was normal according to the doctor who examined the result. Do I have to take up another test to know the cause of the odor?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi there!

Well, without a detailed clinical evaluation it would be difficult to determine the cause of your symptoms The smell could be due to increased nitrogenous compounds and could indicate GU infections/ inflammations, dehydration, increased protein intake, renal issues etc. I would suggest getting this evaluated by a primary care physician initially and depending on the cause diagnosed/ suspected, it can be managed accordingly or specialist care may be sought.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!
