Hi,
That's a relief!
Just follow physician's advice and I would also suggest daily low impact exercises like swimming or brisk walking would also help by improving circulation.A 4 mm urinary stone may be something that you can pass through the urine. So take adequate amount of fluid each day and engage in a regular exercise regimen.
Keep us posted for anything. Good Luck!
thanks! I saw the urologist today and got the CT results. It's a kidneystone. 4mm calcium booger that's sitting at the end of my ureter and playing games with my bladder, I guess. So I'm on Flomax for a few weeks and then will get another CT and another urologist visit. And I have to drink like a gallon and a half of water every day, no coke or coffee. Just water, lemonade, or orange juice. No cranberry, even, he said. Oh, but beer is okay as long as I replenish my fluids since it's a diuretic. Thanks for the info! I'm relieved that it's just a stone--I can live with that. :)
Hi,
I do understand that this may be scary for you. This gross bleeding noted in the urine is referred to as gross hematuria. It is important for your physician to determine which part of the urinary tract actually causes the bleeding. For some, this may be done by evaluating the urine at different times. That is if the blood is highly noted at the first part of voiding the bleeding may be from the urethra. If in the last part of the void, it may be a bladder problem and if the bleeding involves throughout voiding then there may be an underlying kidney involvement.
A kidney ,ureter and bladder CT scan or ultrasound will help. Also, a urinalysis is needed to rule out any underlying conditions. It is important to determine the presence of casts, protein and crystals in the urine as this may suggest underlying urinary tract stones or kidney disease.
Do keep us posted with regards to your progress.
It maybe an enlarged prostate regardless of what you PCP thinks. You may also have an infection or kidney stones. These things can be missed by your PCP as well as an ER - I have had that happen ! You are doing the right thing going to see a urologist since this maybe kidney related and if it is not, it will eventualy effect your kidneys. I have interstitial cystitis so I can relate to the urgency at night - makes me crazy and I am medicated to slow the urges.....While waiting for your appointment drink plenty of water and try to avoid caffein. Good Luck.
