concerned

hi, i have been experiencing some pain for the past month in the right testical, along the epidydimis region. The pain, however, is only when there is pressure exerted on the area. it has spread a bit to the left as well. I do not suffer when urinating or experience any fever. I have underwent an ultrasound and the results were clear but the pain is still there. I have no pain when ejaculating or any erection problems. I am just concerned about this pain when there is pressure. It is sometimes very discomforting. Please advise me what could be the problem and a solution. Will be highly appreciative. Thank you.

I have reviewed my ultrasound and noted that it was stipulated that there is a hydrocele present with a varicocele on the other side. It was also stated that it is not of any clinical significance, therefore I did not have any worry initially. The pain is however still present. Should I still go onto the anti-inflammatories and anti-biotic? I would also like to know the difference between a hydrocele and varicocele and how they can be treated?

Hi,

It is possible that some mild trauma during football or lack of supportive underwear could have contributed to the problem.

Some commonly available antiinflammatory agents include indomethacin which should available with a prescription.

Antibiotics that are specific for the urogenital tract include ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin, levofloxacin, and sparfloxacin. Dosages and doses vary basedon the antibiotic you want to start.

For example, ciprofloxacin is administered twice daily in 500 mg tablets for 7 days.

THANK YOU DOCTOR. I WILL DO AS TOLD AND LET YOU KNOW THE RESULTS. I HAVE BEEN EXERTING MYSELF PLAYING FOOTBALL AND I WILL BE AVOIDING THAT NOW. SHOULD I TAKE ANTI-INFLAMMATORIES? EXACTLY WHAT TYPE OF ANTI-BIOTIC DO YOU RECOMMEND? IS THIS A SERIOUS ISSUE AS I AM WORRIED ABOUT IT AFFECTING MY LIFE, IF NOT NOW, MAYBE LATER.

Hi,

It is possible that you have an inflammation of the epididymis. This inflammation may be in response to a mild infection or may have noninfective etiology.

A course of antibiotics can help clear up any underlying infection.
Additionally, sitting in a hot bath for 10-15 min twice daily will provide pain relief and aid the healing process.

Epididymitis will take about 4-8 weeks to clear up and for the pain symptoms to resolve completely.

Avoiding contact sports and strenuous physical exertion are also advised.

Do keep us posted on your doubts and progress.
