dysfunction bladder

Hi just back from seeing urologist and told me nothing else can be done for me as my bladder urodynamics test and scans, has come back saying my bladder isn't working and packed in. I had a operation on my bowel back in September and prior to that apart from the occasional uti I had no problem with my bladder. Then after operation when they attempted to take out catheter I kept going into urinary retention. They finally managed to take the catheter out December as I started passing urine again. Everything was fine until 3 weeks ago, now my Bp has started going high and getting pain in my kidney area. I can still pass urine but do feel as though I am not fully emptied. The consultant today said that is because my bladder is more or less dead and I will be sent an appointment to learn how to self catheterise but apart from that he will discharge me from urology as nothing else can be done for me. I will speak with my GP Monday when she is in as I can not understand why he is more or less just discharging me and the way he told me my bladder is dead. He wasn't interested in my kidney pain or Bp rising significantly over the last 3 weeks. I have walked out of hospital feeling totally bewildered by what he has said and totally confused and worried I am only 44 and usually fit and healthy before my bowel operation. I feel as though he has just wrote me off. I know my GP will sort things out for me as she has been very thorough and checks I'm ok every few days, any advice would be useful I am just scared and worried sick now with what he has told me. Thanks in advance x

I think what he is saying is that you have nerve damage from your surgery.  Is he sending a report to your surgeon?  He should.  Call your surgeon and ask if he got a report and you want to know what he suggests.  I'm not a huge fan of Rx drugs, but there should be something they can offer you.  If not, or if the possible side effects are bad, then check into what supplements might help you.  From what you have said it sounds like you are dealing with a nerve problem.  Perhaps a nerve was cut or stretched.  If it was stretched, it might improve.  Try to keep your bladder emptied with the catheter to protect your kidneys from damage.
