kidney stent

Is it normal to feel like the stent is still inside of you after it has been removed? How long will that last and could it cause scarring or other problems?

So sorry,, that is scary,, I still have mine 5 weeks now, it has been infection after infection, yesterday finally my urine results were clean, next Thursday is my lithotripsy, since I have my stent my life has been hell, now I am doing so bad that I have to stay in bed most of the time with a pillow under my knee, have been at the ER several times, they give me toradol, last time morphine, it helps for about 3 days and then starts again,, this is not easy, my question is,, is that true that when they remove the stent is without any anesthesia??

I am a bit surprised by the limited understanding of most of the people on this board.  Many speak of little to no pain with respect to stents and seem to indicate that this is the norm, well let me tell you what really is the norm -- there is no norm.  What there is is a range of physiological responses to having the stent put in.  The range is zero pain to having to be admitted to the hospital because the pain is constant and unbearable and everywhere in between.

My own response to the stent was more towards the high end of the pain scale but I only experienced the intense pain when I urinated.  However, the pain was excruciating and after a day (I had the stent removed after three and half days) the pain started lingering longer and longer after I urinated.  It felt as if my kidneys were sore and where continuously being punched.  By day three I couldn't handle it anymore and I was taking percocets every 4-5 hours so that I wouldn't be awake to feel anymore pain.  When they took the stent out I was so relieved but I didn't realize that although the acute pain was over my ordeal was just beginning.

A couple of hours after the doctor removed the stent I started getting a fever and my genitals started swelling up and turning red.  I went back to the urologist the next day to have the doctor prescribe stronger antibiotics and tylenol for the fever.  My fever continued to rise.  Several hours after I left the doctors office my temperature hit 102.7.  I got very scared.  I was also extremely constipated.  Apparently a side effect of pain medication is constipation (at this point I hadn't done a number 2 in over a week).  I went back to the er and they told me immediately that they were going to admit me.  Which they did.  For the next 4 days I was in the hospital where the doctors gave me two monster doses of antibiotics per day (I should have asked them which ones but they told me they were much stronger than the ones sold at drug stores and also they were administered intravenously.  I was just discharged on Monday June 2 and while my symptoms all appear to be gone I feel very weak and am now taking a couple of "rest" days from work.
