lower left pain

I have had a "tight" pain lower left abdomen which i thought could be ovary related, to begin with (and continuing) it was only felt when i orgasmed (as a sharp stab) but now, 4 weeks on, it is constant nagging, dragging feeling that occasionally twinges really hard. It is not excacerbated by movement/lifting etc. It is worse when i have a full bladder. Also i have been slighhtly constipated for 5 days. There doesnt appear to be any discharge or blood and it only  hurts when i strain to defecate (occasionally) It seems to feel a bit better on waking in the mornings and is worse in the evening. Today the pain has started to radiate into the groin/top of thigh? Please can you advise me as my GP has been no help (but has reffered me for a scan which could take up to 8 wks!) Im really worried! Thank you

Hello again!

As i said yesterday i still dont have pain in my lower back but it feels like the muscle between my pubic mound and hip is tender. Do you think thiis could be to do with my reproductive organs or sigmoid colon? (although it feels more in the crease of my leg??
Thanks again, it is reassuring to have someone i can talk to about this.

Please consult an orthopedic specialist for the pain, as advised before. Glandular fever can only be expected if you have a past history of fever with swollen glands, may or maynot be in groin area. There is nothing to feel scared.  Please consult an orthopedic because most probably your problem lies in the lower back.  Do let me know if there is any thing else and please continue to  keep me posted. Take care!

Hi, Thanks again for the reply. Yesterday i had an internal and rectal exam, my GP said all appears normal. However the pain in my groin is now really bad! I should add that i ride horses and riding/lifting/pushing etc dont make it worse. This is really scaring me, especially as the twangy pain is still there when i orgasm (as the vagina tightens and the "waves" begin) Thanks again for helping me with this.

Hi

Thanks for keeping me posted!
Yes, it helps definitely. This looks like lumbar, sacral or lumbo-scaral spondylosis. As a result spinal nerve supplying the back of the leg is pinched causing pain. Another similar possibility is sciatica. It could also be a slipped disc if you have a history of lifting weight or load in the recent past before the symptoms started.
It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. You should consult an orthopedic specialist for this. You may need a few tests like X-rays, MRI of the spine etc to reach a diagnosis. Do let me know if there is any thing else and please continue to  keep me posted. Take care!

thank you for your response. To update you, the pain is now in my groin (the crease of where my torso meets my upper thigh?) I alos have an achy leg (muscles at the back of my thigh and occasionally calf) Occasionally my hip has pains too on that side.Does this make it any easier to diagnose? Your suggestion of IBS i think can be ruled out as i have had IBS for over 10 years and i have never felt anything like this or had an ongoing pain for so long, also stools are back to normal! I really appreciate your help on this. Thanks again

Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!
Pain in the left lower abdomen is generally due to involvement of colon as in colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn’s disease or diverticulitis. If you missed your period (or at times without it even) it could be ectopic pregnancy. It could also be a stone in the urinary system. It could also be ovarian cyst. In your case it could be irritable bowel syndrome. You could read this link for more information: http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/ibs/

Hope this helps. I think you should discuss this with your doctor. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
