undescended testi

My 3 yr old baby has one of these two problems.  When he is relaxed or sleep, we can very easily palpated his testi, however when he is awake very rarely we can feel it,one testi is always present, .  His urologist has recommended surgery, but I am wondering whether we should proceed with the surgery or wait a little bit more.  I have read that if it is a retractile testi which I believe my son has, it is a normal testi and nothig should be done.  Also I have read that with time the testi might descend completely, usually by puberty.  I am hesitant to proceed with the surgery because the fact that it might fix it self.

Hi
I can understand your concern and appreciate it too.
You are right about the retractile testes not needing surgical intervention. However whether it is a retractile testis or undescended, is a matter of clinical judgment. It is difficult to diagnose without examining your son. Hence before taking a decision, maybe you can take a second opinion. Undescended testis left untreated can cause problems like reduced sperm count, torsion or tumors. Hence a good clinical judgment is required to differentiate between retractile testis or undescended testis.

Hope this helps. If you need more help, please feel free to contact. I’ll be happy to answer your queries. Please keep me posted.
