urology

have urge inco but also leak aswell without feeling till too late aswell and sometimes not going for long periods ie no sensation to go.also have spine problem with lower discs sliding narrowing of spine resulting in little feelings in backside/legs.
would a foley catheter be suitable to use as needed basis for daytime use ie short term and when pads are not suitable? i do also have raynauds which i think is contributing to it .do have good muscle control ie not stress inco.an incontinence nurse recommended a foley catheter as suitable for periods when needed as a break from pads etc and use with a flipflow valve.
i don't mind using if it helps as fed up with not knowing if im going to have to go suddenly when out and wet pants etc plus keep trying to control it by tensing up is upsetting my ibs and makes me go aswell.

Hi did have more tests done. Went to spine clinic who said ive some dehydrated discs plus around l4 have gone forward.had cortisone injections in S1/L5.4.3.2. But have some side effect from it!.right foot seems numb.plus bowl problem like want to go most of time?.
plus have hardly any reaction when ejaculating just dribbles out with no force like when you get muscle twitch. did have it go brownish while back.
Still having realy painfull base of spine feelings by tail bone area.
Saw inco nurse other day did pee check was clear but scanned me 5min after and had 200ml still there. i do also get that fluid goes through me quick and found i can produce more than i take in aswell from flow charts.so have to keep topped up
I have been having physio on my neck as been having lots of nerve problems from it.i'e if i push head back feel it go numb right down to finger tips. .But since been having started getting leakage again from bladder.

I did use a foley with flovalve for a while which helped esp being able to get around without worrying about finding a toilet!.etc plus never realy felt it inside me and seamed to calm things down a bit!.did get a bit of a UTi but think it was something i already had started as was finding bits in urine for sometime before.
I think inco nurses are going to give me catheter to use for a while as ive been booked into catheter clinic!.

Tried few other things like Afex and P pouch which both leaked as can go a large amount as don't always get signs that i need to go till very full.
Plus with raynauds which quacks confirmed and looking into wither primary or secondary?
isnt helping at all.

Hi thanks for getting back.
ive done urodynamics! they said could hold? Yes i did but never realy felt bladder filling up till very full and only when felt more in stomach area?as i said to them yes but only because i was only doing that and not other things!.
As have done plenty of muscle work from gym/spots etc abb's etc.so can hold to a degree.
but when it's running down you're leg abit too late then?.I practice holding etc with excerise.
Tried vesicare but just gave me side effects and not much else? did two weeks without any of the above items you mention.apart from odd bit of ginger/curry type powder in my foods as have raynauds/white fingers and been recommended to warm myself up with it! the raynauds i think is not helping etc with it? as get shivering cold even at home so makes you pee?
Have been doing a flow chart this week as have got my appointment brought forward by me doing abit of badgering as quack thought ok not to bother as was only another 6+ weeks away!
I can also go for realy long periods not going ie have no sense that bladders full? 16hrs odd just felt uncomfortable in upper stomach.Had that on many occasions.
I do have narrowing of the spine one says not too bad? plus discs are sliding? have little feeling in backside/legs and sometimes in crotch area ie have problem with erections quite often.plus also have problem with neck and if i press on about halfway down neck can sort of rock vertibrae/hear it clonking with finger.
ive had plenty of injuries from work/sports etc came down on saddle very hard from when off roading once bent steel frame of saddle!.Uro's did check with cam incase i'd damaged tube. And did say my anus wasn't tight enough when did prostrate check?.but said never no realy as not much feelings!.
Have been doing exercise for that myself keep squeezing.
Did speak to a few nurses from help places that deal with this.As was still waiting for inco advisor appointment.spoke about condom cath etc but she said that as i tense up/withdraw from feeling cold with raynauds when out and urge makes me do aswell i find?.she said that it wouldn't realy be suitable?.Plus i do go with a surge etc when do.
Normally around 350ml when been using bottle!.can also go abit again very soon min orso!
have had upto 600ml ish..But also had to go with 200ml and was letting go.
Did find other day was ok walking home got to lift just bent slightly to press button straightened up and then suddenly felt hell quick quick hurry up lift got to toilet as needed to measure and only went 200ml.
I'm starting to think it's more to do with spine more?would i be correct?
One thing i find is that if i sit in chair esp firm one or with arms onit so legs are together that base of spine is painfull like someones kicked me in the butt?.

The reason i asked about using foley cath was only for short periods ie if i have to be out etc or where inco wear woyld show etc ie if had to wear trousers as have to go to a funeral very soon and will be outside for quite a while.
do have someone i chat to who has sim prob from disc degen from bricklaying so has to wear 24/7 more or less and has been great help with info.He uses a foley for short periods if needs to be somewhere or away from home like if staying in guest house etc like a weekend?. Or time away from diapers. But not for months etc.
Nurse did say to me that she thought that using one would be suitable and recommended it.went thought it all with me ie pro's&con's risk's etc?.plus said one to ask for with lowest risk with coatings.
anyway sorry to go on but just trying to get somewhere with it all as have had to deal with this for a long while before broaching with doc and feel abit let down by him?
So been looking at things myself.
i am going to try to get them to see if i have an underlying problem with raynauds ie lupus fibromyalgia type things? As my sister has fibro and has she said i had same symtoms before her as get painfull muscles/joint pain etc
Anyway many thanks again

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
In urge incontinence, Symptoms can range from mild leaking to uncontrollable wetting. It can happen to anyone, but it becomes more common with age. Most bladder control problems happen when muscles are too weak or too active.

There are other causes of incontinence also, such as prostate problems and nerve damage. These also have to be ruled out before going in for Foley’s catheter. Treatment depends on the type of problem you have and what best fits your lifestyle. It may include simple exercises, medicines, special devices or procedures prescribed by your doctor, or surgery.

For urge incontinence, first of all we try medicines like anticholinergics and tricyclic antidepressants. It also may be helpful to eliminate foods that may irritate the bladder like coffee, cold drinks, spicy food and highly acidic foods such as citrus fruits and juices. Kegel exercises can also be tried. Occasionally, electrical stimulation and biofeedback therapy may be used with bladder retraining. Lastly, Augmentation cystoplasty is the most often performed surgical procedure for severe urge incontinence.
I suggest you to consult a urologist and get it evaluated. Urodynamic evaluation which involves filling your bladder with water and measuring your capacity and the flow of urine may be required.
I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
