what tests or x ray need to be done for broken penis?

Hi, I  am a 28 year old guy, I smoke and lead a pretty hectic life.
I was told that I have a broken penis. I pushed my penis down quite a while ago and it made a cracking sound. ever since I find it hard to mantain an erection. I still do get an erection and can have sex but not as often as I used to. My question is : Does a broken penis get diagnosed without any xrays? I went to a urologist and he asked me what my symptoms were but he did not order any xrays. He told me my options were to get an  implant, or to take viagra or to inject myself with a certain type of solution which I cannot recall the name of.. Is that normal? if not, what should I expect? Also if the penis is left untreated, are there things I need to look out for in the future, and by that I mean can a broken penis that is not treated lead to other problems? Thanks for your help.

Hi,
the urologist I saw told me that at 28 it's too early to consider surgery, and all he ordered for me to do is take a testosterone test.
Should I be pushing for the surgery?
Thanks

Hi,
How are you? An erect straight penis is very hard and rigid. When it is fully erect it loses all its elasticity and flexibility and with excess pressure or thrust it can snap or break. This is called a penile fracture. There is no bone in the penis that can fracture but an erect penis is very hard due to the blood pressure created in it while being sexually aroused.
X-rays are not useful in diagnosing penile fractures. Penile fractures can be diagnosed by physical examination, extent of erection achieved after sexual arousal, nocturnal penile tumenescence tests and penile angiography tests.

If a penile fracture if ignored it could lead to many severe problems further and it should be immediately attended to. There are many complications like angulations, scarring and may even result in impotency if left untreated. Also there are chances of damaging urethra if penile fractures are left untreated.

A complete recovery can be made by a surgery and after the surgery the patient is kept in the observation room for a couple of days after which they will be perfectly alright to lead a normal sexual life again. Conservative methods like taking viagra, cialis can also help depending on the severity of damage to the penis.

Consult your urologist for further assistance.
