Please help me

I have 46 pounds to lose by 06/24/09 Please help me get there. I am going on a 20 carb or less diet per day.

I really want this baby. This means the world to me. But pizza and soda have been my friends for so long.

I'm so overwelmed. My pcos had caused so many problems in my life.  I am on metformin for the insulin resistance. I was told that my estrogen level is kinda low which is causing issue still with getting pregnant.

I have lost 35 pounds to date since 09/11/08.

I'm here, but have been out of touch for a bit. Have not been feeling well, so I don't have too much to talk about. It's just this thyroid thing and my heart. Get's in the way all of the time. Have not lost any weight for a week. But I did manage to keep it at the same without gaining. So I guess that's a plus. I'm just a bit down and out but I'll be okay. The only way I can lose weight is with a 1,000 calorie intake. Not very healthy, but I did lose a few pounds.

The problem with doctors is that they are not nutritionists. They get only a few hours in school on nutrition. So I'm very disappointed that your doctor told you no more than 20 carbs. You could get away with 25 carbs a day and still lose weight.

You need to do more than walking, too. There are many workout videos online that are free that you can do at home before work or when you get home, before dinner. You can even do them while you watch TV at night! So long as you get it in, doesn't matter what time of day.

You cannot just do cardio- you must do weight training. I used 3 lb dumbells when I worked out. You have to break a sweat and really workout if you have serious weight to lose.

I also have PCOS. I don't have insulin resistance but I do take Metformin. I tried for 13 months before getting pregnant. I miscarried because I needed progesterone and my doctor wouldn't give it to me (I had Clomid the previous cycle which increases risk for m/c). Anyway, after my first period after that miscarriage, I got pregnant again. I'm currently 6 weeks.

I lost 8 lbs in January. I really needed to lose more than that but the techniques the ladies gave me (like the information they gave you above) helped me lose more weight than I ever have lost since being diagnosed!

I joined s park p eople (no spaces) and started charting my food. Based on my weight, height, gender they tailored my calories, fat, carbs, etc. for MY BODY'S needs. For instance, I was alloted 1,200-1,550 calories a day with 42-65 grams of fat, 25 carbs, etc. I would enter my food every day and it would add everything up for me! It also gave me workouts tailored to my weight loss needs.

Good luck!

It is doctor recommended. I have not added dinner. I don't know what is for dinner yet.

I need all the help i can get. The doctor said no more than 20 carbs a day is it for the next 4 months( I work in a call center all day) or until I lose 46  pounds whichever comes first. She said no fruits. I do have sugar free fruit candy during the days. I gave up soda all together.

I work out by walking in place during the comercial breaks for a hour period of time. I walk making my knees go up as much as possible.

I agree with wonko.  I am against any diet that severely limits any one of the food groups.  Your body needs all of them in moderation - including "good for you" fats such as olive oil, avocado, fish, etc.  Your diet seems to be lacking in fruits and veggies, which is where you would get a lot of your fiber.  It would also appear that you might not be getting enough protein and I don't see any dairy, except the cheese and is that "real" cheese or cheese product?

Exercise??  You can eat all you need (not all you WANT) and still lose weight so long as you get plenty of exercise.  Walking is always good to start with.

A diet is a personal choice and I certainly won't try to tell you, yours is wrong, but you should try to make lifestyle changes that you can live with from now on.  You say you really want this baby - are you currently pregnant?  Remember, you have to keep yourself healthy if you want to have a healthy baby.

For the record, I am against low carb diets.  But I appreciate that diet is a personal choice and will try to offer advice around that fact.

Is this everything you are eating?  I don't see any fruits/vegetables, or adequate fiber.  It doesn't look balanced at all, even for low carb.  Personally, I know I couldn't follow this plan for long before I'd go nuts and cheat.

It is my belief that lifestyle changes are a better strategy than severe, extreme diets.

Was this diet doctor recommended?

What about exercise?

Let us know more so that we can better try to offer some ideas that will work for you.  Again, I'm not trying to say that all low carb is wrong, even though I've decided it's wrong for me.  But like msniki says, it looks like you may be taking it too far.

Lori,

I read on a low carb diet you should not go below 20 carbs a day....so therefor I think you may be going to low for your body. On low carb diet, it normally is anywhere from 20-50 carbs a day, or depending on your daily actitivy. If you burn more of what you eat, then generaly you would eat more. Check out this link (if you can't see it, I'll pm you in a message then). It gives you a better idea to a low carb diet and tells you what to eat and what not to eat. Good luck and I hope this works for you. If you cut out the soda (even diet soda too), you will see a difference. Pizza is good on a diet in moderation, I'm not sure if you can eat that on a low carb diet (unless maybe you make your own). If you like Green Tea, drink that. It's really good. I drink the Diet Nestea Green Tea with Citrus (and I also use the Lipton Green tea with Citrus single serve packets). No sugar, no calories. And Green Tea is good for weight loss. I also take Green tea extract about 600mg a day ontop of all the other medications I take.
