30 year old with abnormal echo

Hello,
I am a 30 year old female. I recently saw my primary care physician for a preoperative examination for a simple outpatient shoulder surgery. While I was there I had an ekg. The next day I was called and told that my ekg was abnormal and I needed to have an echo. Im thinking, wow, thats odd, I consider my self to still be young, it must be a glich or something. I go back for my echo yesterday. I get a call this morning that my echo was abnormal and I need to have a stress test. They do not tell me anything as to what is wrong. Finally my doctor calls me and tells me my echo said I have "septal hypokinesis" and "ejection function is 45%". She basically told me that this was serious. However I work in a doctors office and was told by the physician I work for that it isnt "severe" and by the physcians assistant that it is mearly a matter of changing my diet and exercise.
At this point I am scared and confused! Is this something that can kill me, should I be as scared as I am. Im not that over weight, Im 5'10" and 163lbs, I had a hysterectomy 3 years ago, if that is at all relevent.
Any response would be greatly appreciated!

my husband recently had an abnormal echo too and he and I both had stress test the same day.  I was told mine was normal and I was very surprised because I have Multiple Sclerosis and I expected there to be some problesm with me, but it was him.  I don't know excatcly what the problem was with his yet, we got the letter on Thursday and I have worried all weekend.  We will call the doctor in the AM.  This kinda helped me to know what is going on with him.

Hi To your question septal hypokinesis,it is a condidtion to where the heart is not contracting like it should. My daughter had a heart attack at a young age.She was 31 when it happened. The best thing you can do right now is calm down, don't be getting your self stressed out.You need to find out what is wrong. With you working in a doctors office, and the physician there telling you it is not severe,it should make you feel better.Don't you trust him? What does your other doctor say?It is good that you are seeing a cardiologist. My daughter is 34 now,she has to take it easy. She has nitroglycerine pills in her purse, she has to take them with her where ever she goes.I hope every thing turns out o.k. for you.Take Care.Raven33

Hello
I tried to post on the heart forum but it was full, so I gave here a chance. In response to the above questions:
1) yes I do smoke, clearly now I am going to quit.
2) I do not however drink unless it is a holiday, etc.
3) I had a hyst at the age of 27 due to fibroids in my uterus that caused very painful periods. I do however still have my ovaries.

I have been referred to a cardiologist, I am having a stress test next week. I thought maybe another woman may have gone through this so I gave this forum a chance. Thanks for the responses though :)

This post would probably be best answered in the Heart forum, where there is an actual cardiologist answering questions.  Here, we are just ordinary people who probably don't have the expertise to give you much in the way of relevant advice.

It can be hard to post in the Heart forum, I think they only take 2 questions a day.  The forum resets itself to accept new questions at different times each day.  I've personally (and I've heard a lot of regulars say) that the best luck in posting is from 8a-11a EST, but the official word from MedHelp is that this is NOT true--that there are different times each day, in order to give people from different parts of the world a good chance to get in.

If you DO get in, be ready to post your question right away.  If you leave that page and come back, you will not get back in.  Some people have their question ready in Word, and simply copy and paste it in if they just happen to get lucky posting.  Don 't give up; it can take weeks to get in sometimes.  The two times I've ever posted, I got right in by sheer chance.
