4 cm Dialated

I went to the doctor on wednesday and he said that i was about 4 cm dialated but i havent had any contractions or anything so he told me not to worry about going to the hospital just yet....everyone else in my family is telling me that i should go in regardless if im having contractions or not becuz im dialated.....ahhh what should i do?!? Is it normal to be dialated and not have contractions??

I am 30yrs with 3kids am not pregnant but am having contraction and my legs and hands are always shaking pls someone should tell me what is really wrong with me

you can be dilated and not have any contractions its normal. plenty of women are dialated throughout their entire pregnancy. the doctor told you want to do. go with what a doctor told you over your family

how far gone are you?
i think there is a bracket of what centimeter you are dialated and when you go to the hospital but if you start having contractions go straight away, but if your still worried go anyway and if they turn you away again just keep going back if your worried, dont just sit there and worry, doctors arnt always right,
