Abnormal Bleeding

After extensive research I've decided to try talking to actual human beings over this forum before I go see a doctor.

Okay, from the beginning - my boyfriend and I became sexually active at the beginning of March, but we always used protection.  I never got any side effects of ever being pregnant, and my period came as normal, around the same days as I get it every month.  I really don't believe that pregnancy is the answer .. so that is what makes me even more worried right now.

I usually get my period between the 20th-25th each month, and it lasts about 4-5 days tops.  It's usually a pretty normal flow, but it changes here and there depending on if there's been any major changes in my lifestyle and that type of thing.  But like I said they pretty much stay the same.

I'd say though that the last 3 perdiods I've had, I've been experiencing more painful cramps than usual.  This last on in March was by far the worst and I even had to leave work early because of it. Now, just today (the 17th) I woke up this morning to find that I had been bleeding heavily all throughout the night.  Upon closer inspection I saw that the blood was very dark in color and in some parts almost looked like it was "clumped" together.  I realize your menstrual cycle can change dates (because it has happened to me many times before) but it "feels" different than when I'm having my normal period.  I've also noticed that after my last normal period I've been getting minor pains in my loins area.

It just doesn't seem or feel natural!  Please, any insight would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

I know its not what you want to hear but you should see a dr.  If your form of protection was only bc it is possible that you could have gotten pregnant.  I did on bc and my dd is now 16.  Like you said, changes can occur and your period may get clumpy sometimes and you may experience difference in cramping but better to be safe than sorry.  Just to stop your stress and worrying get a checkup.   good luck

To me, everything sounds pretty normal.  I know that my periods have changed over the past few years, for the better (thank goodness), but I don't see why someone else's periods couldn't have changed for the worse (more cramping, bleeding, etc) from what they're used to.

Cramping so badly that you had to leave work is very inconvenient, but not unheard of.  I used to get those kinds of terrible cramps.  I'd have to realize they were coming and take my Tylenol ahead of time because if I didn't I wouldn't be able to stand up straight.  Also, the part about minor pains and the blood being clotted sounds normal to me - especially when you have heavy flow.

Even with that being said, you definitely need to see your doctor.  While the symptoms themselves you're describing sound fairly normal for a period, it is a bit strange that this has happened to you over just 3 months.  When I said that my periods changed, that was over the timeframe of a few years.  So, definitely make that appointment.

Good luck!
