Being tested for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.....any input on the subject?

Hey everyone, I am 24 years old and have had irregular periods all my life. The majority of all my paps have came back normal. My periods were more regular while taking birth control but I tried several kinds that made me nauseated. Then I tried Ortho Lo and it worked wonderfully. One problem.... I worked for the county and didn't have insurance so I couldn't afford them anymore. The doctor said she would put me on hormone pills if the bc didn't work, but that doctor moved and I hate going to the gyn. I have abnormal facial hair growth.I also have what I call risings or boils that I have been told could be hormone related or due to Staph. I have started having anxiety problems since January and I don't know what could cause them...could anxiety be related to hormones also? I know this is just patient to patient but I was wondering if anyone has similiar problems. Thanks for taking the time to read this..I am sorry it's a bit long.

I've never tried the BBT thing.  I would have to look in to it because I know nothing about it.  Thanks for your comments and good luck to you!

Forgot to add: Abnormal hair growth any access hair growth. I always some long black ones on the side of my face. I also get it on the tops of my toes. I think they mean abnormal if you get it in places where guys would get it, from too much testosterone. Hope this helps some!

Yes that is normal blood work for PCOS. I have not been diagnosed with PCOS, BUT I am being treated for it. I take metformin 750mg 2x a day. I had the blood tests done and those were normal, so my dr tested my glucose, insulin and progesterone, and my insulin was a little high and I am not ovulating. So I am on metformin for three months, if I am still not ovulating I will be on clomid. I hope that everything turns out for you.

I have no idea when the meds are supposed to work. I started mine on 3/20 1x a day and increased to 2x a day 1 1/2 week later. My temps seem to have stabilized a bit, but I don't know if I will I this month. I am on day 15 today, so we'll see within the next few days. Are you BBT charting? Do you have any side effects?

I was just put on Metformin because I am not ovulating.  I gained a lot of weight in the last 6 years.  What is considered "abnormal hair growth"?  I do not have the dark hair on the insides of my legs at all but I have like 6 darker, thicker hairs that always grow around my nipples.  I also have a few hairs between my breasts.  Hair also grows on my big toes and some on the top of my feet.  It is not much but enough to bother me.  I read about Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and it sounds like what I have.  I am really wanting to get pregnant and wondering if you have any idea when the meds are supposed to work?  Is it supposed to help instantly?

Also, did they do blood work to diagnos you? The doctor drew blood to check my FSH(folicle stimulating hormone), LH(lutenizing hormone) and Serum testosterone levels. Didn't know if this was normal procedure.

I have the darker areas on my inner thighs also. Do you ever have boils there? I have had boils as long as I can remember but I think they have gotten worse as my hair growth has gotten worse. Thanks for the comment. Good luck with the road to pregnancy.

I also have PCO. My facial hair is more noticible now. I was irregular for a long time. I was diagnosed 3yrs ago. I am also darker behind the neck and in between my legs on the inner thigh. I was on Ortho for 6 months and then decided to get pg. No luck still due to some other problems I have. As far as the increase hair growth, when I had asked my fertility specialist, he said, it might be taken care of with some medication, but only when I am not preg. Since I am trying to concieve, that is not a route for me yet.
