Brown discharge

Well I am 13 and haven't started my periods yet, and I have started to get brown discharge. I am a bit worried and am too embarrassed to tell my mum. Is it because i haven't started my periods yet or is it something else?

Hello there and welcome dear.  Well, first---  hey, what are mom's for??  She wants to help you with these things and there is nothing to be embarressed about.  She's a woman too and will have lots of good information for you.  Nothing embarressing about being a female and discussing all that goes along with that, okay?  Talk to your mom without worry that it is embarressing.  She's not gonna mind talking about it and not think it is gross or weird.  She's been there too.

Now, brown discharge is often old blood.  You may be getting ready to start an actual period (which you want to be prepared for with supplies such as napkins or tampons--  again, talk to your mom).  I often get brown discharge right before my period like the day or two before.  Old blood from my last period perhaps.

The other thought is that maybe you have a bit of a yeast infection going on??  Do you have any other symptoms such as itching or clumping of discharge?  Typically if you have a yeast infection you are a bit uncomfortable.  Anything like that going on?

Otherwise, it is probably old blood and your period is about to start.  Talk to your mom, don't be afraid!  good luck dear
