Can there be too many clots while on your period??

Okay so let me start off saying im 19 yrs old n started my period when i was 10 and its always been irregular. I usually bleed very lite where i only need to use the ultra thin pads and dnt NEED to change them bt like once a day....bt every once in a while i bleed a lot more to the point im changing my pad like every 1- 1 1/2 hrs and i have a lot of blood clots. the clots arent big but its a lot of them. I never though anything of it till now and im just wondering if this seems normal??
