Cholesterol results - anyone from UK please?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi, I'm 68 and just had my cholesterol results which I'm told are "normal" but I'd like another opinion please as I feel I should get my HDL up and my LDL down?? My father and my brother both had heart disease and I want to avoid fatty arteries if I possibly can. My HDL was 1.7
LDL was 3.08
Triglycerides were 0.84
Total cholesterol was 5.17.

I don't really understand if these figures are "normal" or what as they fall a bit outside of the actual guideline levels so can anyone on here from UK please advise me? Does age play a part or not? And what is my "cholesterol ratio"??

Thank you for any advice on this - I realise I might be the oldest member on here though!

Sorry but I don't understand your figures. Are you from US?

Sorry, meant LDL not LCL.

Well overall yes, your levels are normal. LCL should be less than 100, HDL (for optimal results) should be above 50-60. Anything lower puts you at risk for heart disease. As for triglycerides, less than 150 is normal, and you want your Total cholesterol to be lower than 200. The only thing you really need need to work on is getting your HDL up.
