Hello I have been on depo for a year next month. i was late for my 3rd shot. not sure how late all i know was i was suppose to get it in may but got it in june. i did have unprotected sex a few times. I was feeling fine just gaining weight and having mood swings but then i had slight reddish brown spotting for a few minutes as a flow in august for one day with severe cramping and had a shot in september. 2 almost three weeks ago i started feeling neauses lost some what of an appatite and started getting severe lower back pain and lower cramps like menstral cramps on the left side only. i ussually get headaches but not everyday i have been getting them everyday. I also just started geting constipation some days then direah other days in august after the spotting. i just wanna see if i should go to the docs or nnot i know that the symptoms im having are from depo most likely but should it have happened like this? oh yeah an dmy periods stoped back in like march or april so the cramping and spotting that day was a little weird and i beleive i did have unprotected sex that day but not sure. what should i do?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
These side effects are due to hormonal effects of depo shots. However other than that, Brown vaginal discharge is most often associated with old endometrial tissues. In other words, if your period is late you might get a brown, rather than red, discharge. It could also mean that for whatever reason during your last menses the entire uterine lining failed to make a timely exit. This brown vaginal blood with discharge can also be due to your old blood retained after periods or it can possibly be implantation bleeding in case you are pregnant.
Other causes could be polycystic ovarian syndrome, diseases of pituitary gland, hormonal imbalance of estrogen and progesterone and uterine abnormalities like fibroid and  cervical dysplasia.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

I was getting cramping left side last night but I was cleaning and doing a lot of lifting so probably no biggy. I just wanted to be sure. I will call my doctor this week and ask them. Thanks.
