Doctor, If you by chance read this again.. If the results came back completely negative for both HSVI and HSVII (because they did), is the test still worthless?

THAnK YOU!! Thank You!! Thank YOU!! When I get a credit card, doctor, I will donate to this site.

I am young and was foolish in some of my sexual behavior. I'm so scared that SO many people have absolutely no idea what Herpes is or  the prevalence of STDs in general.

This experience has truly been an awakening for me. Thank you for your information and help :)

You're home free.  The problem with the non-type specific tests is interpreting a positive result, ie distinguishing HSV-1 from HSV-2.  But a result negative for both viruses is reliable.  Congratulations!

Bubbley:  The Diamedix HSV blood test is worthless.  It is one of the older, non-type specific tests that does not distinguish between HSV-1 and HSV-2 infection.  If a provider is recommending HSV blood testing for you, insist on a test based on antibody to HSV glycoprotein G, such as the HerpeSelect test.

Linzyluhoo:  Excellent blood tests to detect HSV infection now are widely available.  Diamedix is not one of them, but herpes diagnosis no longer depends solely on taking specimens from herpes lesions.

For more information, come on over the the STD Forum and search the threads for "herpes diagnosis" and "HerpeSelect test".

that isn't necessarily true, herpes can be tested for through blood.  the most accurate todate test (i believe) is the westernblot test.  they use a blood sample to test for antibodies.

back on topic:  i've never heard of that company.

No, sorry hun..I haven't. If your unsure about the company, why not just go to your reg. dr. or the health dept. The health dept does std screening for free, usually...if not free, it is like 10.00.But you need to get tested somewhere, while the lesion is still present..otherwise it's pointless.Good luck hun
