Discharge/ possible spotting between periods?

Hi, I noticed some brown discharge this morning and when I went to the loo earlier I saw three tiny spots of dried brown (possibly blood?) in my underwear. I tend to get the normal white/clear discharge like many females anyway but I've never had this before and I am slightly concerned as it is exactly in the middle of my cycle so not due a period yet. I have had periods 9 years now and been on birth control for 2 years (i am 21) so I do not understand what could be going on. I recently switched brands of contraception to my old one (i was on a different brand for 6 months but according to my doctor it was exactly the same drug). I have only had one sexual partner and he has only been with me so it wouldn't be an STD. I never forget to take my pill and I always use a condom as well to make sure. I have never had this before so I do not want to worry over nothing but any ideas? I am in the middle of uni exams right now so could stress affect it? I am just curious as to what it could be so that my mind can be put at rest if a one off like this is normal!

Thanks!
