Forgot Tampon

I have just discovered that I forgot to take out a tampon but have had my period this whole week so have been using a tampon on top of the old one. I had noticed a very bad odour and when I took the left one out its was horrific!! This morning I woke up feeling like im getting flu and im worried its TSS. If anyone has done something as silly as this before and has advice please let me know. Im reading all sorts of things about it being life-threatening etc. I would appreciate any advice.

Ladies. I love you. Just had the same thing happen. I noticed a foul smell today. Something serious. I even pointed it out to my fiance. He to, wowed by the stench. Later went to take a bath. All is fine. Get out and notice, man, my gina still smells. What gives. I do some poking around up there to see if all feels right. And to my horror, there it was. A freakin tampon. Bahhhhh!!!!
No symptoms, just a minor panic attack. Fingers crossed all clears itself out. Might have to chug some cranberry juice. I know it help a uti, maybe it could also help fight off the . . .ickies.
Best of luck to all who have been and or will be in my shoes.

This just happened to me, however I think i caught it quickly (and totally by accident!) I had put one in at 10:00 pm and at 12:30 am I went to go  change it, when i pulled it out, to my suprise TWO tampons came out. Somehow they must have lodged side by side. How i didnt feel it, i don't know?! The reason I dont think it was an old one was because the strings must have been beside each other, seeing as they both came out at one and i had hold of both of them by the string, and neither of them were heavily filled or stinky or anything. phew. but now im freaking out wondering if theres anything else in there, which im sure is just me being paranoid  now. HOW DID I DO THAT? i cant even remember doing it. Although, when I put the one in at 10:00, I couldnt remember taking the old one out. I think I had actually wrapped up my old pad and thought i had taken the tampon out GEEZ.. everyone think im ok? lol

Thank God for you ladies.  I have been having the same problem.  About four weeks ago, I thought that I had a lost tampon, so I went to the emergency room.  The stupid doctor didnt find the tampon, but he managed to snatch my IUD out. I went on with my life, me and my husband have been having sex, and I even had some bleeding.  I dont have a smell, but sex has been quite uncomfortable.  I went to see my obgyn, but I saw a mid-wife instead.  She said nothing is there, but I disagreed.  So she sent me for an ultrasound. She is going to check me again this week, even though she says she doesnt think there is anything there.  My body says there is something wrong. I feel tight down there, almost like I am clogged. I'm scared, can anyone help?

I just got out of surgery for a vaginal hysterrctomy... the doc asked me if I'd put a tampon in prior to surgery. I said no. She said she had done a visual check, manual check, flushed the vagina with antibacterial fluid, had the assistant doctor check and STILL as they were removing the uterus, "something" pulled out with it. Upon inspection she saw it was an old tampon. She said prayers of thanks during the surgery, because 4 different methods had failed to find anything in my vagina. She sad, if the tampon had inadvertently been pushed into my abdomen, I could have died from infection, because the mass would not have shown on xrays or scans.  Apparently I had thought it had come out with a huge clot (one of the reasons for the hysterectomy) but had become lodged behind my cervix.  Scary. I noticed a slightly foul smell during sex with my husband two days before surgery. God knows how long it was in there. NOTE: You should be checked by a doc if this happens. Mine said that thankfully I was on antibiotics for Cystitis prior to my surgery and a strong antibiotic during surgery. I am still to watch for signs of infection.  Very serious, ladies!!!
