How accurate is a blood test for oral herpes if I have never once had an outbreak?

aghh- the never ending issue of my life!!! I was in a monogamus relationship and had oral sex with my boyfriend (he performed) at the time he was feeling a little sick and the next day had a cold sore.  I ended up getting "oral" herpes on my vagina.  The dr. sisn't even think it was herpes, she said it looked like razor burn - I nearly fell on the floor when she got the results back!  I never even knew this was possible.  Fortunately I have never had an outbreak, although I freak myself out whenever i have an ingrown hair or anything unusual.
My point is, my test comes back positive for the hpv that is the oral kind and negative for the genital kind...eventhough I got it on my vagina.  I've never had an outbreak in my mouth or anywhere else.
My dr. told me that so many people have herpes and most don't even know they have it, which is why it can be passed on anytime. You may never have an outbreak, or you may be out of control and need to take meds daily to help prevent an outbreak.
So you are positive once, you are positive forever.  Sorry - I am in the same boat.  And pissed off that I got it so innocently!!!! well sort of innocently!   ;.)

it is very accurate herpes can lye dormant in the body for years and you wont even know it unless you test for it or have  an outbreak. so even if you dont see the bumps and you kiss someone or have oral sex or your bodily fluids get into soomeone else eyes, or scrapes or cuts you can spread it. well i hope that you feel better and get treament for it. goodluck sweetie.
