Hearing my heartbeat whoosh in my right ear.

I am a 48 year old white woman of general good health. I have no history of heart disease in my family, my blood preasure is average but my bad cholesterol is at approx 200.
Lately I have been hearing my heartbeat (Whoosh-whoosh)in my right ear.  It used to be when I held my head at a certain angle but now I hear it almost all the time. Is there a need for me to be concerned?

I have had this condition for about 3 years now. I've had two CTs and was diagnosed with dehiscence of the jugular vein. In other words, the bone that separates my eardrum and my jugular vein has deteriorated.

It use to come and go, but now it's constant. Sometimes it's all I can do to sleep. Sometimes wearing earplugs help. I can press against my jugular, moving it to the right just a slight bit, and it stops completely.

It's not a lethal condition, but it will surely drive you nuts. Unfortunately, the only cure is surgery and from what I’m told, it’s a pretty complicated procedure. Regardless, I’m to the point to where I’d do almost anything to make it stop.

Whew!....I thought it was just me and perhaps I was going crazy or something much more sreious was happening or about to......Well, like the old saying goes,"misery loves company".....I too am a 48 yr. old woman and I've been hearing this "whooshing" sound periodically off and on for the past 5 yrs. i might go months without hearing it and then it's back again anywhere from days to weeks  at a time.It is very discouraging and a bit alarming when you do mention this symptom to medical professional and they either dismiss it ,or take a quick lighthearted guess at why  and what it is....

It could be fluid behind your eardrum. Let your dr know and he can look at it. Decongestants otc can help-sudafed(psuedophedrine from the pharmacy-you have to sign for it in the states) works well for me. Check with dr or pharmacists to make sure it doesn't interfere with any other meds that you may take.
