How long can it take antibiotics to reduce swelling and an infection on my labia?

My left labia is very swollen and hard to the touch in parts along with being very painful.  There is also a slight odor.  My Dr. said it was a vaginal infection, not a cyst like I thought.  I am going on my 3rd day of antibiotics but the swelling has not gone down and it is still very painful.  The odor has gone away but I am wondering if the antibiotics are working and is it normal to take this long for any relief and decrease of swelling?
