I am wondering

I am 49 and will be 50 this year. I have fierods that stop me from getting pregnant. Now I have been taking these herbal pills to shrink them, I have been taking them for almost  4 months and  I have had sex last month around my period . And now my period is 10 days late I was wondering if I was pregnant

I also have been having backache, but there is no sign of my period. It is the 35 day and I am almost 11 days late. What can it be? HELP

I think it could be the start of menopause more likely than pregnancy sweetie.  The ability to conceive just goes down drastically once a woman turns forty and is almost unheard of past 45.  I'm sorry if that is what you desire.  Some do become pregnant through the work of a fertility clinic and donor eggs.  But we start releasing eggs at a young age, in our teens.  We only have so many.  And the eggs age as we do.  Therefore, it is just really like one in a million or even rarer for a woman of 49 to naturally become pregnant.

Periods can be late for reasons such as a thyroid slowing down, changes in routine, illness, weight loss or gain, stress, etc.  It happens.

But to be sure, take a test.  I just tell you these things because the odds are that it will indeed be a negative.  I am so sorry!!  It stinks that we only have the capacity to have kids for so long when we want them.   peace and hugs

Thank you for your advise. I have never missed my period. Even though this is day 35 and I am 11 days late, isn't that concered a month late? I am going by the 35 days in my Cycle. I used to go only 25 days the latest wS 29 days. Could it be post-menopause? I don't know. I am too scared to take a pregnancy test. Because I don't want to see negative. ;(

Hi, welcome.  Well, the statistics for a 49 year old woman becoming pregnant naturally are very very low.  We have few eggs left at that point and they are of low quality.  When you hear of women being pregnant at that age (and I'm in my 40' too . .  .) it is because they used fertility clinics and typically donor eggs.

I'm doubtful that you are pregnant based on this.  You can always take a test.  If you were to be pregnant, it is considered a very high risk pregnancy.  You would need to see a specialist for care.

So, take a test and go from there.  But periods can be late for a variety of reasons.  I know as I pass through my late 40's, my period is evolving and changing.  It's rough being a woman with all this.

good luck!
