4 weeks late and 3 tests later.....

I read almost all of the question's, and answers, on here and realized that there are a lot of people in my situation. My last period ended around August 20th and the date today is 10-14-05. My cousin, who is a nurse, and I figured that I am about 4 weeks late or 6 weeks pregnant. I took the third test early this morning and it was negative! In most cases it would be accurate at a month along, but I do know there are exceptions. My husband and I have been trying since March so we are really praying for the tests to be wrong. Let me know if you have experienced this or heard of it. Would my hormone level possibly still  be low enough for it to not test positive? I've been off of birth control for almost a year...in 1 month to be exact, it will be a year, Is there any other possabilities for me to be late? I was just at my Yearly exam and everything seemed fine, so there are no tumors or cysts. I'm letting nature take it's course, but I'm hoping for it to go my way!

I had bow chicka bow bow with my boyfriend 3 days in a row. I was due for my period 7 days later so I am aware that we did not have sex during my fertile time. However, I’m 3 weeks late. I have been a lot more tired lately, super thirsty, peeing a lot, the bathroom is my best friend. As soon as I drink something it comes out 5 minutes later. I’m extremely irritable and cranky and don’t have a lot of patience. My breasts aren’t that sore, my left breast is a quite sore if I push down on it, but they aren’t sore to the touch. My left breast is sorer than my right one, looks bigger too. I spotted a bit on my 21st day late so I thought I was getting my period but it hasn’t come. I am crampy, and have been crampy for the past three weeks, I keep thinking that my period is coming so I rush to the bathroom but NOTHING is there. I took two urine tests, one at the doctor and one at home, both said negative? This was a week ago. Should I wait or test again? Is it possible I am pregnant even though the tests were negative?

Yes there is a such thing as precum and it CAN get you pregnant. I would question the accuracy of the negative urine HPT's considering how late you are and the symptoms you are having. A lot of women claim neg. HPT's but the blood tests were positive. So I suggest you go get a blood test.

Just wanted to say that I'm in the same boat.  My last period started Aug 7th and that was two weeks late.  My mom had one period when she was prego then none.  So I wonder if I'm prego and may have even been before Aug 7th.  All negative tests going to get a blood test Mond.  I was actually in the process of getting  insurance when all of this started happening.  But most insurances don't cover maternity for a year so I am going to have to rely on Medicaid which at least it's full paid and I have found some really awesome doctors who work with Medicaid out of their desire to help others as opposed to just wanting money.  Ask around, ask your local department of human services, if you don't have insurance there are things that can and should be done to help you.  There are also sliding scale clinics which is what I am working with until I confirm pregnancy (if it's true).  Prayers to us all.

I agree with jlu. You really NEED Health Insurance BEFORE you get pregnant. It is VERY costly and like kjsk posted to another lady today, that baby will need check-ups, shots, and they do get sick. Colds, ear infections, some need surgery as soon as they are born for heart defects, etc.. SO MANY things. I have 5 and if we didn't have insurance, well. I hate to think about the things that could have happened. And I hate to say it, but the quality of care you receive with good medical coverage verses Government Asst. can be significant.
Good luck--J

Yipes, you need to get insurance since your doctor visits will be many once you get pregnant.

I doubt if the test are wrong.. sorry.  However.. to be tryig for a year with out protection i know canbe difficult.  Maybe you should consider buying an ovulation predictor kit.  then try that way.  a lot of times it is a matter of timing.  As for your annual being fine.. that is great.  Mine were fine too.. but it still took me 4 years and a lot of infertility drugs to get pregnant.  but by the Grace of God we did.  and have a beautiful baby boy

best of luck keep us posted

Reply to Christina. Good luck with the new Dr.I am sticking with mine. She was my mom's Dr also and she is middle ground when it comes to naturalpaths, and those dr.s are hard to find (middle ground i mean) I will continue to watch my symptoms, and chart what my body does. Hopefully it does something soon. Good luck to you and your husband! Keep me posted.

reply to christie2004. We also came to the conclusion that I am 4 weeks late, but I don't have insurance so I am not going to the Dr. to get another test, though I wish I could. I also am somewhat of a Naturalist, so those pills aren't for me. I guess it's all about letting nature run it's course. If I am pregnant I will find out, and if I'm not then I should know soon enough. Thank you for your input. *prayers*

Replying to mrswest. Yeah, I did buy a sensitive test...First Response...and I only did one thing wrong, I waited too long to read the  results, but that only caused a false second line. The line was outside the window so I know that it was just an over reaction. I have never waited that long to read a result though, so every other test, plus the one at the Dr. two weeks ago, were all done right. I have some symptoms also, which makes me wonder, but any hormonal inbalance or change can cause most of those pregnancy symptoms so that's kinda confusing. Thanks for the concern and I look forward to hearing back from you! *prayers*

You need to know the first day of your last period.

Lets assume it began on 8/14-15 (since you said it ended on Aug 20).
So your next period was due we'll say roughly 9/14.  Since you said you didn't get that one, we'll go to today 10/14, which would (roughly) be the day the next one would be due.
So now you are actually late for your second period.

Pregnancies are actually dated by the FIRST DAY OF YOUR LAST PERIOD(even though you weren't actually pregnant then)--so if that was 8/15...you would be 8 weeks pregnant by now using standard dating rules (again, roughly-don't nitpick me down to the exact days anyone).

A properly performed HPT using first morning urine should be positive by now.  If it is negative, your next step is to call your doctor and ask for a blood pregnancy test to settle the issue.  Sometimes you can become anovulatory and miss a few periods.  If this is the case, your doctor can sometimes give you a medication to bring on your period.
