Im not sure what is going on.. please help

I just turned 21 and i have always had periods that were never regular. I had went without one before for almost 5 months. I have visited Dr's who say that with time it will become regular and what not and my option was to take the Pill to get a regular period so that is what i have been doing and everything was fine. I got off the pill for about a month and than started taking them again and my first period last month started akward.. i had a weird brown discharge that was there instead of blood... and of course there was some bleeding but mostly it was the brown discharge. At first i had thought maybe it was old blood and decided not to see a dr and wait to see what will be with the next period and today my period started and it is the same brown discharge.... I do not know what else this can be since i have been tested for most of the STD and what not when i worked at a clinic.... Maybe it is an issue that a regular pap is not able to show... what could it be.. or does anyone out there know of a particular test i need to go take.. i am really scared... need some advise ...thank you!

When I went on the pill I had the same thing happen to me.  It really sucked because I didn't want to have that kind of peirod.  That was how I knew my period was ending when i did have one and to have the light brown gunk for a period was really hard to tell beginning from end.  It lasted a could of months and then I got back to normal flow and wished for the light stuff again.  Relax.

Hi, I just started bc pills again after stopping for awhile.  I had the same problem as you did.

I talk to my gyno about it and she said that is normal and by cycle 3 it should be back to normal. I hope this helps.

Hi, it sounds like your hormones are off-balanced due to the starting and stopping of the pill. It could take a few months to regulate. There are many others on this forum that have experienced what you are describing. The brown discharge is most likely old blood. Best wishes to you. tmv
