I'm planning to see a gynecologist soon because I have irregular periods. I'm 39 but I don't think I am menopausal because my mother was pregnant with me at 39 and also because I have had this problem in varying degrees for a couple of years. Lately it seems more sever with several missed periods. Sometimes I get cramps but no blood. Sometimes I get increased discharge instead of blood. Sometimes no cramps or blood at all. One time I got a really long and heavy period in 2011. I'm not pregnant, my boyfriend is working overseas. I think irregular sleep patterns are to blame, as I did shift work for 10 years. I'm also a "yo yo" dieter but I've never taken in less than 1200 calories a day. Would the doctor give me some sort of hormone to get my periods on track?
