I had spotting off and on for about a week. I'm 6 weeks today. At one poitn, it was bright red. I freaked out b/c I thought bright red blood was a sure sign of m/c. Well, so far everything is going well. My midwife does not know what caused it, but sometimes it just happens. Mine was too light to even show on a pantyliner, it only showed on the TP when I went to the bathroom. I didn't have any cramps. Mine was also pretty sporadic like your sister's. She's probably fine, but if she can be seen by her OB/midwife that can't hurt.
Yes it is normal to bleed while pregnant, some woman have normal periods throughout there pregnancy. But if your sister is worried about it then she should see a doctor to put her mind at rest. Take care x
OK, if the question is "Is it normal to spot while pregnant?" the answer is no. You should not bleed at all during pregnancy, but it does happen that sometimes there is a little blood and all is ok. She does need to contact the doctor if there is any blood at all. It is rare that a woman has her period during pregnancy, but it is not normal and all women who have any bleeding at all should see their doctor. If it isn't heavy, chances are she's ok, but she still needs to tell the doctor and see what they say.
I had to see a Perinatologist because of some concerns. I did spot on occasion (bright red) just on tissue, and she said that I may spot between 8-10 weeks. I am 14 weeks and haven't spotted since. Good Luck!
Spotting/bleeding during pg does not warrant a trip to the ER if it's not accompanied by cramping or is heavy bleeding. However, it should always be mentioned to the doctor as soon as the office is open again. It might turn out to be nothing, but should always be mentioned.
Thanks, Ladies! As always, your comments always help. I have now had a whole bunch of people tell us not to worry, since it was just a little and has stopped...but she has already called the doc and is waiting for a call back. I'm sure it's nothing to be worried about, since the doctor is taking her time calling. Thanks again!
