Am I going to get Toxic Shock Syndrome??

I'm extremely worried right now and on the verge of a panic attack. I put a tampon in before I started bleeding because I was pretty certain I was going to start my period soon, and I also fell asleep and forgot to take it out for a long time which is also another problem BUT I didn't start my period and I know doing this increases risk for toxic shock syndrome... I only checked if it was okay to do this after I did it and now I'm really worried because everywhere says not to do it. The tampon didn't hurt to put in or come out at all. I feel really stupid and I'm really worried. The internet says onset is usually within a week, and I'm really worried because that's a long time to wait. Am I going to get TSS ??

In fact, most GPs will never see a case of TSS. According to the UK Public Health Laboratory Service, between 1985 and 1990 there was an average of 20 confirmed cases of TSS per year, out of a total population of 58 million. In the US, approximately one in 100,000 menstruating women contract the illness per year.

It's very rare. If you're worried about embarrassing leaks just wear a sanitary towel. Hope that helps x
